My husband (the K-1 holder -- we married within the 90 days, but not file for AOS yet...) just received an email from "ResponseAmman@state.gov" stating: (Yes, I'm typing as exact -- spelling errors, ugh)

Subject: "Urgent form US Embassy in Amman"

Body:

" Urgent form US Embassy in Amman

Dear Mr. (hubby's last name)

Please check all the pages in your passport and see if you have any other visa other than yours in the passport.

Your urgent reply is highly appreciated.

Regards

L.g"

Both hubby and I are going "HUH?" This is scaring me a bit. Do we respond? It doesn't seem professional (none of that "This email is confidential.. " blah blah blah I usually see at bottom of .gov emails) Could anyone clarify about this?

Thanks for your prompt responses.

I would call Embassy directly to verify... this way you can be sure you are dealing with them and no imposters... don't respond to that email, or at least I wouldn't

Sounds like a scam -

are you sure that address is correct? ResponseAmman@state.gov

check the header of the message, not what is written in the "from" field.

Oh - DO NOT RESPOND.

The government would not ask for information like that via email. They would simply look at in the embassy if needed.

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

WARNING: Phrases in this post may sound meaner than they were intended to be. Read the Adjudicator's Field Manual from USCIS

I am guessing his visa is OK, right? So don't respond. There are a number of flags here. No official disclaimer as you note. The consulate handles visas, not the embassy and they have Americans on staff that do not make mis-spellings in official documents like I make here all the time. Ugh. Spam the letter and block them from further communication, you really have no further business with the consulate in Amman.
