no cat fight over this petty bullshit

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

Ahh nuts.

That's 2 topics I have started from a lighthearted point of view. Just something interesting. Nothing more. No preaching. No malice.

Both times it got turned into something more.

I'm not sure if the word I want to type will pass the filter. Needless to say it's a word used in common, everyday, UK English. It begins with 'b' and ends with 's' and translates literally as gonads.

That's the last topic I start.

No,.. I was warned that if I posted something like this, someone here would ####### on it and that it would be a waste of my time and effort. I kinda hear tones of "I told you so".

I'll just use VJ as a source of info for our application as and when we need it. No skin of my nose. I've never really got the time to post here anyway, I just thought it could be fun, but on every message board in existance, there is always a group who seem to find it irrisistable to take a slant that "grates" in some way. Maybe I was optimistic in thinking I could avoid that kind of stuff here by keeping it as simple and un-offensive as far as I possibly could.

chas ...

VJ is chock full of a wide range of personalities ... whenever you start a thread you are guaranteed to offend at least one person on this board.

why give a stranger on the internet that much power in your life??

Chas,

Please continue to start threads if you'd like. I, personally, like to read topics that actually are more than post boosters ( oops, did I say that out loud?! )

I could not care in the least if my grammar is correct, if i forgot to give credit to someone for being the "original" author, or if I sound like a blubbering idiot at times for feeling sorry for someone who's missing their fiance who's not with them at the time.

What I DO care about is the fact of whether or not I hurt someone's feelings who is simply trying to have a little fun in OFF TOPIC or is trying to get information on this website to help them in their journey.

Someone may tell me to toughen up or to get thick-skinned and get over it..... I just may do that!

Chas,

Flame wars are good. They are kind of like forest fires in that they're disruptive but they're good for the overall health of the forest. Ok, maybe that's a load of bs. I like flame wars though, and if you can start a few I'd love to watch. Maybe even throw in a flaming branch every now and then when things threaten to simmer down.

You da man, Chas.

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you earn) and reliable parenting strategies, (adults, not children, are in charge).

That's a sort of narrow definition, isn't it?

According to Thomas Paine, common sense is much more than that, and he should know. After all he wrote a book about it. ;)

Here's another take on common sense which speaks very much to our current situation:

[Popular government] rests in the common sense, and the self- restraint of the American people. It rests in the knowledge of the majority that it must keep within the checks of the law and the Constitution if the Government is to be preserved. And it must rest in the view that the minority that it is much more important that the government should be sustained than that the minority should have for the time being control of or a voice in the government. It rests in the knowledge of the majority that the rights of the minority and in the individuals of that minority are exactly as sacred as the rights in the individuals of the majority. (William Howard Taft, 1909)

How dare you try to start an intelligent dialogue? Shame on you!

Don't you know you're just supposed to post a smiley and then move on?

Right, not that I'm picking sides here but I think your sarcasm is unneccessary here. Obviously this was a jokey thread, not an intellectual discussion....don't make this place out to be nowt but smileys and empty conversation, because that's not the case at all & I think you know that.

Really I fail to see the maliciousness in Fischkoepfin's response that prompted such a backlash. Whatever, it must be something in the air today. Why the hostility?

And I don't think my comment implies that this place is just empty conversation. In this case, however, it seems apparent that anything but was not a welcome addition to the thread.
