Atlantis Found on Google Ocean?

Experts say a "grid of streets" spotted on Google Ocean could be the lost city of Atlantis.

The network of criss-cross lines is 620 miles off the coast of north west Africa near the Canary Islands on the floor of the Atlantic Ocean.

The perfect rectangle, around the size of Wales, was noticed on the search giant's underwater exploration tool by an aeronautical engineer who claims it looks like an "aerial map" of a city.

Atlantis experts said that the unexplained grid is located at one of the possible sites of the legendary island, reports The Sun.

Greek philosopher Plato described how the city sank beneath the ocean after its residents made a failed effort to conquer Athens around 9000 BC.

Google Earth squashed that idea though, publicly stating that the lines that looked like streets, were in fact sonar data collected by boats.

“Many amazing discoveries have been made in Google Earth, including a pristine forest in Mozambique. In this case, however, what users are seeing is an artifact of the data collection process. The lines reflect the path of the boat as it gathers the data,” said an official Google statement, BBC reports.

Google says it is not Atlantis. Google would never lie to you. Come join Google.......

Although a very tempting morsel indeed - it is unfortunately the result of wishful thinking (and a tad bit of hype).

Sonar-related readings from boats making grid pattern(s).

If the grid is an artifact of sonar, then we should be able to find similar grids elsewhere.

Granted they will not occur everytime, but there should be other examples elsewhere. If this were the only occurance, I'd think that rather odd.

I thought Atlantis was a ancient Greek civilization...so if it's not within the vicinity of the Greek Islands, it's someone else's lost civilization.

There are a number of theories regarding the location of Atlantis, depending on how Plato's descriptions of it are understood. One of those locations is in the general vicinity of this image.
