If you make the check for exactly $500 they will exactly return it to you. Make the check for exactly $455. Send your I-129f package by certified mail and use a personal check. You will receive a return receipt that your packet was delivered and know when the check is cashed. Then you will get an NOA1 receipt from USCIS. At this point you can begin tracking your timeline yourself. Just update each change in your case as it happens
