If there was imminent threat and I did not have a gun then what would happento me? I have one because I can. I carry it when I want. No one can tell me otherwise. Like I said before change the constitution.

The problem is the 99.9% of your life when you are not in imminent threat, and you are walking around with a loaded weapon. Even people whose life is on the line on the clock, act like fools off the clock, when they let their guard down, and blow off a little steam. Put the weapon away. You don't need it, and chances are, you never will.

that sure sounds like a great condom ad.

so whatcha saying, you got 3 dozen or more?

Puleeze. You wish you could. Talk is cheap though.

Oh trust me lover boy...........there's nothing I'd rather NOT do.

so um, what makes you think my guns are not organized? i know where every one of them is - and currently only one firearm is outside of the gun safe.

Well, if that's true, then you should have no problem matching up the firing mechanism to its proper gun!

See how easy that was!

so you're saying i need to take the firing mechanism out of the gun and outside of the safe? a safe that would require a blowtorch to get into?

maybe it's just me, but that sure don't pass the common sense test.

here's some pics for you

Hey, it's your house and your weapons, not mine.

It's just a suggestion.

I wasn't being a smart a$$.

If you are confident that the safe cannot be breached by a child, then it is your call.

Nice safe Charles. I have one like it.

Give it up they are clueless. They are arguing from positions of weakness.

a 3 position combination lock with 1 million possible combinations? if a kid can break that, he's gonna be a criminal anyways.

i'm quite certain it can't be breached by a kid. yet what i find rather disturbing is your inability to see that i've taken steps to secure my guns and you want to move the lily pad further away, by asking why i don't remove the firing mechanism from the guns - and assuming that you want them stored outside the safe, as storing them in the safe defeats the purpose of removing them to begin with.

you should know that gun parts are expensive and harder than woodpecker lips to trace. if someone - say a meth addict - broke into my house and stole the firing mechanisms, that would be a pretty good haul for that meth head. not to mention having gun parts scattered all over the house isn't the best idea for combating a gun's mortal enemy - rust.

Removing the firing mechanism and storing it separately defeats the self-defense purpose. The more steps involved in readying the gun for firing, the more precious time is lost, diminishing your chances of using the gun to defend yourself. Now, if the only reason you have a gun is for hobby shooting or collecting, and it wouldn't occur to you to actually use it for defense, then sure, keep everything separately.

No offense Scott, but really....

Does the peace of mind you get to potentially defend yourself against an imaginary intruder outweigh any fear that a small child might get curious about your gun?

An intruder is no more imaginary than a small child wandering about my house on their own. I have no children, and I don't allow them in my house unsupervised. If I do have children here, they will be with their parents, and I would ensure that my gun is out of reach for the time they were here.

And I don't see how having a gun makes a person more of a man.

Having a gun doesn't make a person "more of a man," nor does not having one do so. Machismo is not the issue. Nice red herring, though ;) Btw, many women own guns, too. Are they trying to be "more of a man?"
