this post was very helpful... I was completely confused as to how I should write the check and the exact filing fee of it. Now my worries are free! We have about two weeks left before my husband's visa expires... I really hope that they send an NOA1 soon. How long does it take from the time of submitting the documents to receiving NOA1?

And, the checks are made out payable to "Department of Homeland Security" . No abbreviations or variations allowed. You can pull an RFE for just that.

It is "U.S. Department of Homeland Security" typing what you wrote will result in the cheque being rejected.
