Hi-

My Fiancee and I are just starting the process of getting a K1 visa. We are really just taking the first steps of looking into the whole process.

We were looking over the forms and on the one of the forms it says "where does your Fiancee intend to live" easy enough right?

Well because of my work I currently live with a flatmate but of course fully intend to get a place of our own when my Fiancee comes to the States. My question is should I get a place before I file the application or can we just use my current address and can she can just file for a change of address (would that create problems?). I hesitate getting a new larger place right away, because if the K1 application process takes 8-10 months, that is rent that I am paying out (rent is high in SF) on a larger place which is much more than what I need right now. Keeping my current place (when she gets here; of course w/o my flatmate  ) is not really an option because it is too small for a married couple. I do own a home out of state, however that is a rental property and we do not plan on moving to that home.

If you had or currently have a similar situation, I would appreciate any suggestions on how to handle it.

Thanks in advance for your help.

From what I understand, there's a way to change your address with USCIS when you move, so it shouldn't be a problem. I can't remember the details though, if I find it I'll post back.

I've read so much stuff in the last week I don't remember where in particular most of it came from

I moved out of my house and rented it. I pretty much use my Fiancee's Aunt and Uncle house as my address and keep my stuff there in their extra room. I get all my mail there too. Just keep using your current address and don't worry about it. Once things get settled and the visa comes then you can figure out where to live at that time.
