They have money for contraceptives, but not rail. This is a stimulus bill!

Though President Obama is begging Congress to pass a jobs-stimulus bill, U.S. Rep. Dan Lipinski, his fellow Chicago Democrat, says he's "leaning against" voting for the bill in its current form -- because it contains too little for transportation.

...

Downstate Transportation Committee members Aaron Shock, a Republican, and Phil Hare, a Democrat, agree with Lipinski that the transportation portion is too small.

"There's very little for mass transit and rail," said Hare, who wants an Amtrak line from Chicago to Des Moines, Iowa.

...

Lipinski said transportation spending will create more jobs more quickly than most parts of the current bill.

Ha, as a kid, like five years old new the CTA in Chicago like the back of my hand, would take many round trip rides for a nickel, many times on a bus, elevator, or street car, was the only person aboard, street cars had both the engineer and a conductor with a huge hunk of metal hauling around a 40 pound kid. No wonder why the system went broke, and those that didn't were purchased by a joint venture of Exxon and GM and torn down so people would buy cars and gas. But they were punished severely by having to pay a $5,000.00 fine for each occurence.

Just like our private automobiles, really not that bad, if I were carrying full passengers all the time, and for only needed reasons, would get 180 mpg per passenger, even as inefficient as this thing is, but not allowed to make it even more efficient, I know how, but would get fined severely by the EPA. Public transportation will never be efficient unless a bus or plane leaves with a full load. Ha, explain that to your boss or school principle if you are three days late. Wife, daugher, and I did take that new Metro out of Chicago to save four hours of driving time and 17 bucks an hour parking, was nice, but only us and two others shared a huge empty car. Don't thing they made money on that trip.

We need individual transportation, will packing cattle in a freight car may work, don't believe we want to be treated like cattle, bu the airlines are sure that way.

A whole new system is needed, and one that doesn't depend on the friction between a rubber tire and an ice coated road. Was proposed in the 19th century a monorail system where a simple shield could keep ice and snow off the road, but before it's time. We could have small computer controlled electric powered vehicles flying along today at 300 mph or above with better than 95% efficiency, and the ground below can be used for growing crops. Vehicles can still have wheels to get to the closest monorail since we already have outdated cities and towns. Just takes a whole new, or an old way of thinking. A car carrying a 150 passenger shouldn't weight anymore than that and can be done very safely with a little bit of thought, but that requires thinking. Forget that idea.

Nancy ought to step back or shut up or both.

No kidding. If she has issues or agendas with a stimulus plan that Obama's team hasn't included, she should be bringing the issue to them, not make such nonsensical comments to the media. She's seems to have a habit of putting her foot in her mouth.

I can't imagine for one moment that everything that is wrong with government is down to one woman, Nancy Pelosi although, as with you guys that remark she made to the press in the context it is presented makes little to no sense at all.

However, it has to have something to do with the way bills are formulated and presented, and it is one of the aspects of the US gov's way of doing things I don't understand as it happens. Why do bills always allow for these add ons so that things can be stuck on willy nilly that have little or no relevance to the bills original intention?

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Only recently learned about him. As in September when I moved. I never learned about him in school. Hubby was surprised too. He then made me watch the epic Hawaii to further my education.

She is the Speaker of the House - a very powerful position when it comes to making or breaking a bill. If the Speaker makes such a claim to the press, there's a good chance she's going to push forward her agenda. Hopefully the congressional Republicans and Obama's economic stimulus team will keep her agenda in check.

That wasn't my question, however, again, is there something else wrong with the US government? From your description, seems like yet another imbalance of power.
