I'll reserve comment because quite frankly he hasn't done *anything* yet except sign some executive orders. After the last 8 years I don't blame you for being cynical, but let's see what happens.

I don't think you really understand what this means then. Closing Gitmo means a LOT more than just relocation for the prisoners. For starters it means those still being held by the United States will started being treated fairly and under the rule of law, rather than the house of horrors that Gitmo symbolizes.

That's why I underlined the qualifier that those still held by the U.S., after all is said and done. Any of the detainees being sent back to, say, Syria...well, Gitmo was probably a better place for them personally. I'm hoping the Obama administration takes reasonable precautions against this sort of thing.

I'm sure it's my lack of comprehension of your point but, it seems to me, you were suggestion Gitmo was in some way a "house of Horrors". The only negative report I recall hearing was one incident concerning the handling of the Koran.

I suspect when these prisoners are transferred to their next prison... they will wish they were back at Gitmo.

Yes I am sure that they will allow these type of prisoners a lot more freedom to do anything. I do hope that they finally get full attorney access and their day in court finally.

Perhaps you have not said anywhere that you hate your country. I don't follow you about so I can't say. But when I do see you posting about politics, you're fairly unhappy with the state of things. A good deal unhappy, in fact.

I think one of the blessings of an international relationship is the option to live in either country. The political climate (if it's bad enough) is one possible reason I personally would consider leaving my homeland. I should add that it wouldn't be mere politics that would make me go, but if the outcome of the politics becomes ruination, then yes I would leave.

It's not uncommon to hear people comment that if so-and-so is elected, they'd rather live this-place-or-that. It's also not uncommon, though, for those people to usually be talking out of their hat. Those of us who inhabit this community have usually seen life in other parts of the world. If we are reflective after those experiences, we can then better weigh the American experience.

Poll: 68% approve of president's first days

WASHINGTON - Barack Obama is enjoying about a two-thirds approval rating for his first days as president, a poll released Saturday found.

The Gallup Organization survey found 68 percent of Americans approve of Obama's performance as the nation's chief executive. That's a number near the high end for new presidents, but short of President John F. Kennedy's 72 percent in 1961.

The poll also found that 12 percent in the survey disapprove of Obama's job performance, a typical number all presidents face after an election.

Actually yes I have been blessed to have been all over the world. Europe and Asia, Central America and the northern part of South America, Phillipines. Few have traveled and lived in other countried as much as I. A few years total in Asia of course and I am also very attuned politically. Now it is very moronic to say to live out of my beloved country because I don't like the two major parties. I have never and never will say if someone wins I will leave the country. That is a stupid thing to say. I have seen others say it of course. I will always live where I do and will say what I think of politics. Don't like it then post something to that effect or move on. No sweat off my brow. You obvious love one of the two major parties. That is ok and good luck. You are a sheep though
