So, people walk away from this crash with not only their lives but with a $5K check to boot? No doubt some idiot will try and sue the airline anyways. They should send any such person back into the Hudson River.

isn't that the American way?

if the birds were canadian geese, the passengers should sue canada!

Or maybe we should invade Canada and free the people from these murdering geese.

probably trained by them evil canadians as part of their plan. ^_^

i am sure they will be paying more later via the lawsuits

it will be interesting to see if someone develops a winnable theory based on an act of God (which is what a birdstrike is classified as)... No doubt someone will try....

Someone driving down the road has more reason to be blamed for hitting a deer then a pilot or tower. The Tower MIGHT see a flock of birds. If it does it will certainly send that information to pilots. IF pilots have time they will steer clear of birds. HOWEVER birds that are seen 3000ft away are definatly not going to be missed by a 154,000 lb plane coming in at around 200mph

Lets see how soon you can spot this bird before you duck... haha

The term "Act of God" is very vague. Last year Southwest decided it was ok despite bad runway conditions to land a 737 on an icy runway. As a result it ran of the runway. Withen a year it had two other accidents with the same problem. The NTA finally got involved a few months ago. It was kind of funny because around a month ago all airlines except ours were taking off. Even though it was our decision not to go it was coded to weather "Act of God" and there was no compinsation given to passengers who missed cruises or didn´t make it to school on time. I felt sorry for the people but at the same time with the knowledge that my airlines was doing what was SAFE not profitable made me proud of my job.
