Ha, learning how to fly is easy, it's learning how to deal with when you have problems that takes all the time. In getting certified to fly a twin, wondered even why the dang plane had two engines, did most of the flying with just one. Have to learn to keep a cool head, never panic, and even with just a few passengers aboard, just think about saving your own life, if you do that, the others will be okay. Wife ask me why he picked the river, always the first choice, sure beats banging into a building. Can only say in this case, luck was really on his side in that he was close enough to the river to land in it.

Sure this pilot is modest and doesn't consider himself a hero, I already lost an engine twice on takeoff, and that was single engine planes, just kept a cool head, and safely landed the planes and pleased to be still alive. Bet he is happy to be still alive, remembered his training and kept a cool head.

If you crashed someone elses brand new lamborgini with a passenger and you both survived, you wouldn't get out and start bragging about it, even if the brakes failed... you still trashed a damned expensive car... I'm sure that helps someone remain modest when they saved a bunch of lives (including their own) and sunk a multi million dollar vehicle in the process!... not to knock the guy but it's not like you do that and jump off the plane, and do a victory dance cause you saved the day!... besides, maybe he finally got curious and pushed that large red "do not push" button because after all those years... he was just too curious... good thing is was the suck a flock of birds into the engine button instead of the pilot eject button!

Glad that the things turned out relatively well... I'm counting down the days to my next flight and I'll be pretty pissed off to go through the whole k-1 process and then die just before finishing it (my SO would probably pretty upset too).

Won't be much dancing after the FAA, DOT, insurance companies, and employer gets through with him, and the attorneys with a mountain of paper work. Also feel sorry for anyone that supplied anything to that aircraft, they will be spending the next several months in court.

So the investigation begins and like the USCIS and the IRS, everyone is guilty until they prove themselves innocent. Certainly they will not take the word of the pilots that the engines were hit by birds.

For engine manufacturers from around the world are involved, namely Pratt & Whitney, Rolls-Royce, Japanese Aero Engines, and MTU Aero Engines. Representing the USA, UK, Japan, and Germany. Kind of feel for Pratt & Whitney, because they are here. Foreign companies involving product liability lawsuits get a bit touchy as international trade agreements and politics are involved. But the whole idea is to find someone to blame. Accidents of this type use to be considered Acts of God, but attorneys learn quick, not easy to sue God.

Flight plan will be examined, if Chelsey B. Sullenberger III was just a couple of feet off his flight plan, may get the blame, that would have missed the birds, if indeed it was birds. They will have to find the engines, but with that huge rush of water, and further engine damage, may be very difficult, they will have to find one molecule of bird to verify his story. Hope they do.

Really nice for attorneys, they will make a fortune on this, always do. Local FBO, that's a fixed base operator was hit with a $98,000 defense attorney bill, because some guy stopped there for gas. What was really evident, a VFR pilot, that is visual flight rules, you have to see where you are going, flew into fog resulting in a crash, but hey, it could have been bad gas as well!

Just seems to me if a person is found innocent, the plantiffs should not only have to pay for all the legal expenses, but really hit hard for consequential damages for the inconvenience they cause innocent people, can't run a business if you are tied up in court.

FAA did certify the engines used in that Airbus A320, but you can't sue the government, can assume FAA certification doesn't mean #######, but better not use any none FAA certified parts, would really get creamed.

Feel sorry for the pilot and co-pilot, where the news uses the term, debriefed, they are going to be grilled. Most of our government leaders are attorneys, ha, should be law against that.
