We finally have my husband's interview on 1/29/09! We're both extremely excited to almost be together again, but I am worrying so much that we'll have a problem or they will give him AP or worse. Our case is pretty straight-forward, no concerns, but you never know! My husband spoke with a lawyer who has translated our documents for us, and told her about our interview date. She told my husband that "there's a 90% chance they wont give you your visa right away because you are a man- they wont believe you"...!!!!!!. (there are no problems with our petition or any red flags in my opinion!)....... then told my husband that I really should be present for the interview (at least waiting outside as I can't enter), as they look very favorably on that (which isn't a suprise after spending time on this forum)...

I'm freaking out. I don't have time off of work (If they gave me time off, which I think my boss would, I'd probably have to use unpaid). I've been living at home for the last 8 months to save money so we can buy a home sometime in the near future, and am not kean on spending $1000 for a few days.

Do you think it is worth it to send an email to the consulate, expressing my desire to be there, but outlining the reasons why I can't? I have sent so much information to my husband, ridiculously organized, with pictures and ticket reciepts... do you think it could really just depend on my being in Albania at his interview time? Silly! I wish I could be there, but my husband can handle this on his own too.

Any advice?

I plan on going to my husband's interview in Lima. I know my husband can handle the interview on his own, but I want to be there to support him. You said you are freaking out about the process think how he will feel when the people in the embassy are grilling him. Just knowing you are outside waiting for him will give him more confidence and will look better to the embassy.

I also do not have any paid time off, but for me the cost is well worth it, because I will be there to help my husband with his embassy, to help celebrate our visa, help him pack, see his family, etc.

Ultimately it is your decision though. Good Luck

Would you rather INVEST the time & money to be on the consular premises and thereby increase the chances that the visa will be issued, or increase the chance of denial by your NOT being there? Ask yourself this.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Does this really increase the chances of immediate approval? How would my being there eliminate what would need to be concrete information that would warrant AP or denial? They cannot just deny or give AP on a suspicion- it has to be justified. I understand that my being there "appears" good, but in what concrete ways would that eliminate any of the problems the consular officer may find that warrants holding the visa? (I don't know what they would find- we have a straight-forward case!) I guess I'm just so disappointed in the system if that would be such a heavy determinate- there is so much evidence and recent visits, and it's not as simple as wanting to be there- I would think they would understand that.

What do you guys think about me sending an email to the consulate?

Read what the lawyer told your husband. My case was straightforward, too... but read my post signature below, especially the 4-29-08 entry.

Do what you want, but be prepared to accept the consequences.
