I learned the hard way that if you want to get something important from one place to another, you don't use the USPS- not even their most expensive "most secure" options. Use FedEx or UPS.

After a year of Uncle Sam's horseshit, he threw us a final curveball: he lost the Express Mail delivery confirmation package in which I sent my wife the original documents she'll be needing for her interview in a few days. No record of it, other than the receipt that I have in my hand and the scan that took place at the local distribution center. No time to replace them and get them to her in time, so no interview. She has to cancel her interview and reschedule now, meaning another month or more apart. F*cking great. Thanks, US government. What a useless bunch of jerkoffs.

All they can do is give me my $26.95 back. Not even an apology, just rude dicks on the phone who act as if I'm wasting their time.

Don't use the USPS for anything other than a postcard.

Also I'm a little surprised you only got the $26.95 back. Don't the express packages come with some baseline level of insurance?

HUH, at this point I dont think thats the issue! :bonk:

I never had any problems with the USPS and that included using the International mail service. I sent a packet to Claudeth in seven days.

Every carrier screws up every once in awhile, even UPS and FedEx, handle zillions of packages everyday. What really tees me off, is the very act of having to send original documents, one of a kind items that are extremely expensive and difficult to replace. Best rule is not to send them period. At one time, in this country, we had the ability to have certified copies made, normally by the register of deeds, but that stopped. These were just as valid as the originals Searched all over to have certified copies made and even wrote my congressman on this subject to no avail. It's crazy.

Have no idea why you are not with your wife, but if at all possible, would have hand delivered them.

If dealing with the USCIS, can work your can off gathering all of your original documents and depending on your IO, may not even want to see them!

I was expecting an express mail from USPS that didn't come in, contacted my postmaster general, she worked her can off tracing that package and didn't quit until she found it, getting it to me barely in time. Another variable depending on how conscientious your postmaster is, some just don't give a darn.

"She has to cancel her interview and reschedule now,"

Is an assumption, didn't she already send in copies of the originals? Would show up anyway and you can e-mail her that receipt with a letter explaining the USPS lost it in the mail with even a letter from them. She may not even need the originals.

Wife was unfortunate to get a dingbat IO for her USC, call her a dingbat because she set aside her application, and was the only one that wanted to see the originals and even insisted on keeping my original tax returns. I got my senator on her back, and even got a call from the manager of that field office giving me a personal apology.

What the hell, on any USCIS form, you are signing your life away with severe penalties if anything you offered or stated was false, and those penalties are very severe.
