Since Mena is doing their old wives tales, I thought it would be fun to share some of ours! Let's share old wives tales from our countries!!

I'll start:

*Don't walk underneath a ladder or you will not get married

*It's bad luck if a black cat walks in front of you

*Can't find something? Tie Pontius Pilate! tie a knot on a handkerchief, say the prayer, and you will find what you couldn't before. Remember to untie Pontius afterward!

*Wear something red/ a red cord bracelet to avoid the evil eye/ jealousy's evil

:)

Saludos,

Caro

well i guess lol back to the evil eye u know the one ur head hurt cuz someone gave u the evil eye and grammy gets the egg out to get rid of it, then of course there is dont let anyone sweep the broom over ur feet or u will never marry

if u see a child so cute touch it so it dont get sick even if u dont know the family

if u watch a dog poop u get sty in th eye

and also same as mena dont let anyone get ur hair or nails cuz they can put a spell on u

oh yes and any latin house always has a ghost lol

if someone dies leave cold water in a clear glass in the window so they can drink

im sure i will remember more as the day goes on but thats what sticks in my mind the most

Good ones estadia!

Do you come from a hispanic family?

*All pregnant women's craving should be tended to, or the baby will be marked. I have a small red birth mark on the back of my right arm and my grandma was convinced that it was a craving for strawberries that was not satisfied :hehe:

*Don't sit on a cold surface (like marble) or you will never have children

Saludos,

Caro

*Do not open an umbrella inside the house, it will bring bad luck

* If someone touches your feet with a broom you'll marry and old rich guy.

* If you open an umbrella indoors you will never get married.

* If a baby gets the hiccups you put a red thread on his forehead and it will go away.

PS: Estadia I didn't know you were guatemalan too :)

Yep, my Mexican/Basque grandmother was a stickler for that one and it somehow seeped into my consciousness too -- I found my husband's hat on the bed today and FREAKED out! Turned out it had fallen on the floor, and my visiting British mum-in-law picked it up and put it there. Guess she didn't know about the dooooooooom...

hahahha that pregnant women tale is also very closely believed in El Salvador.

I worked in an office with many pregnant women and believe me we ALL ran out of the office to get them whatever they wanted when they were pregnant, because if she didnt get it, the baby would come out looking like a mango if she didnt get the mango she wanted hahaha

and babies also were given Ultra Special Bracelets that parents would tie on their wrists to ward off 'Ojo' hahhaha

geez...

do not brush your hair on the bed, or it will make travelers late/ No te peines en la cama que los viajantes se van a atrasar

bueno y esa no es una cancion de los Enanitos Verdes????
