Welcome to VJ!!! We look forward to your future questions and comments. Good luck for a speedy approval.

If you want to save yourself a lot of money, you can do the K-1 process by yourself. Most of us here on VJ did all our own paperwork, etc. and saved a lot of money and frustration. Some people actually found that their lawyers messed up their paperwork and caused delays in their approvals. It is definitely possible to get through the immigration process without the use of a lawyer.

We are in the Seattle area as well, and have dealt with the Seattle district office for the past 4 years, so if you have any specific Seattle district office questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone! I'm trying to talk Karen into registering and posting something too, but she's a bit shy around strangers, she says.

We do plan to do the K-1 thing ourselves. I've already downloaded a copy and also the I-130, and they both look fairly simple and straightforward, unlike income tax return forms. :)

Zee Bee, I love your avatar! I can't wait to get one like it showing Karen and me together. I bet you our grins will be at least as big as yours!

I'm looking forward to my trip to Cebu. I'm concerned that I'll like it there so much I won't want to come home. From pictures of it that Karen has ent me it looks like a nice place. Not enough trees, though. I look forward to trying the food there. Karen's always telling me about the goodies she has for lunch every day, then I go and look them up to see what they are, and they all look and sound mouth-watering! Unfortunately Karen can't cook, so that will have to be my job in our relationship. Maybe I can find a Philippine cookbook (in English, please).

Jundp, I'm doing all right in this, the "Snowpocalypse 2008" as people are calling it. I've been mostly staying inside (it's good to be self-employed), though I did just make a quick run (actually a very careful walk) to the local corner store and back, as I unwisely forgot to go shopping before the storm hit yesterday. Walking in the snow is easy: it's where people have shoveled off the snow and left the underlying ice that it gets treacherous. Luckily I have good boots.

HappyDancer, if you're in Cebu next summer perhaps you, Karen and I can meet for a coffee. We'll see. She and I might be a bit busy. :)

Raymaga, I'll definitely use you as a resource if I have specific questions about filing for things in Seattle. Thanks!

Jay

I love you, Karen B. Saberon!

Hi guys! This is Jay's fiancee. Karen! and that avatar is me! With a wig! Haha. Fun no? Jay can prolly post the one with me on a natural hair. Anywho., I did register in Visa Journey already but i think i lost it somehow.

My question is,., and this just bothered us yesterday is this: Were planning on seeing each other this June or prolly July next year (2009). After we meet, he'll get back to Seattle and file the visa say a month after. He''ll use the k1 processing.

He told me, i think that he needs to have a job or something at least and i've read it here too that he need to have income tax proofs of some sort. This just bothered us because my fiance is unemployed but doing a freelance web design work. He's 51 already too. When we get there and marry, we will help each other and work our way out financially too.

Anywho. what should we do? Is that like a major major requirement? or not really? and if it is, we can't afford for him to travel and meet me, and then file the k1 thing and be rejected if he doesn't have work. Is tehre a better alternative? If there is, what is it?

If however we decide to marry here (philippines), can he apply ahead of time for an extension of his tourist visa?

In case we want to really get married (legally) in the Phils., so he'd have more time? Is that possible? He comes here as a tourist to visit me, but we decide on extending his visa and stay longer to marry me? (we're going to prepare his and my papers too , just in case). What other preparations should we get?

. Or is there another type of visa he needs to process here in order to do that? Then, if its possible, what visa will we file when he gets back to the US?

I just really want him with me that's all. We both just wanna be together. i hope you all can help. We'd need that. All options available are welcome. Thank you.

God bless all and Happy Holidays!

Karen.

I love you, Karen B. Saberon!
