HI I would like to ask about the ssn thing. My I-94 will expire march 8, 2009 and if we file next week for our AOS, probably I will get my EAD after 3 months so that means I will get my EAD definitely after March 8, 2009. My question is that, do I need to get my ssn before march 8, 2009 or I can still get ssn by the time my EAD arrives and on that time my I-94 expire already. I'm really confused. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

You can get your SSN up to a couple of weeks before your I-94 expires. After that you will have to wait until you get EAD or your GC.

Why in the world would you want to wait until March to just apply for an SSN when you are eligible now? Even if you apply in March you are not going to be assigned an SSN until your status is verified and that could possibly be weeks or months later.

You are eligible to be assigned an SSN based on your K-1 status and using your I-94 until 14 days before your K-1 status expires. At that point you will need an EAD card or I-551 stamp or card to be assigned a work authorized SSN.

If it was me I would be at an SSA office ASAP with my birth certificate, I-94 and passport to apply.
