Hey,

Just wondering if anyone had any advice on how to beat the homesick blues? or maybe there is no cure :(

I cant work or drive here in the states yet, and so my life consists of waiting for my guy to come from work. So im finding im nagging on him all the time and getting down which ruins the little time we do get to spend together. He has this thing about scorpions, so spends a lot of time with the 30 he has, and if he's not doing that he is on forums talking about them! As i dont get to see anyone but him, or sometimes his friends and family, when he is around I wat us to do stuff together. But he has other things to do as well. I just feel so dependant, which I hate.

I miss my friends, and I mega miss my family. Im missing my dads 60th birthday next month too. I also think about when the time comes and I have a baby- and I wont have my parents around to see them grow and stuff. And thats really sad :(

Hmmm.....life is tough

xx

p.s plus its bloody hot here right now! yuk!

Why dont you look into doing some voluntary work until you can get a job.... this would give you an outside interest and something to share with your hubby...

I got my parents a computer and a webcam and installed a programe called Skype... so I can call them whenever I want to and see them on the screen... I found being able to see then helped me a great deal...

Hope this helps

I have looked into the voluntary work thing, but at this point I cant get to the locations. My bloke works A LOT so has no time to take me, and i dont drive here yet or have a car. Is it easy to get a US license? I have a UK one. The roads really scare me here though- especcially the vegas ones!! I just need to get brave :)

I like the Skype idea- I will look into that!

Here's a link to the Nevada DMV (Department of Motor Vehicles), you should be able to find all the information you need about getting a NV driver's lisence. In the meantime you CAN drive with your UK driver's lisence for a while, do some driving on the weekends to get used to driving on the right when there is less traffic to distract you. :)

Good luck!

I know how you feel. I'm in the same predicament as you. It's hard, and I seem to be a lot more moody than I ever have been in my entire life. I even am starting to scare myself somtimes. I feel like I'm being really needy and I hate that. I hope things get better for you as I do for myself. I hate to know that other people are feeling the way I am. It's not a nice feeling that I wish upon anyone else.

Thanks for your response CanGal :) Like you say, it does suck to know others are feeling this pooey but at the same time I find it reassuring to know that its the situation causing pressure, and not that ive transformed into miss super ######!

I have said to Toran that I am starting to scare myself also, and I am moodier than Ive ever been. But hopefully as I know the cause I can really try and control the old emotions!

Thanks for the support Pink roses, Im totally convinced youre right and things will get better.

Man you guys are all the best! Im sooooo glad I stumbled across this group! Its just so good to hear from people that actually understand!

Big loves to you all :luv:

I'm a soppy git with an ability to make people grab a bucket really quick....... but for me the answer is simple. Focus on the positive. Remember why you entered into all of this in the first place. Surely we all do it for one simple reason. We love someone and want to be with them. If you can achieve that then everything else is well worth it. Right?

This worries me slightly as well - but here I don't really go out much while my little one is at school; I spend time on the PC and do chores mostly (my buzz-kill life! ) The difference is that here I *can* go out if I want to - cos everything is close by and there are buses, or I can walk.

I think its probably LESS homesickness than boredom that's bringing you down - you definitely need a regular thing to occupy yourself with be it excercise (you can do that at home if you can't get to places) or something you do at the same time every day (like you would a job). Have you looked into maybe doing an educational course from home? (or via PC).

Is there something you've always wanted to learn about..and could you make it into a certification deal? (Something that might even improve your chances for employment if you are going to work)

What about clubs on the 'Net?

Maybe an ex-pats group for your home country (you didn't say where that was), or a discussion group on something that interests you?

I do Role Playing by email - there are HUNDREDS (if not thousands) of those kind of groups (yahoo groups is the most popular to search) on just about everything you can think of - and I'm talking things like Star Trek, Star Wars or Buffy here, not Debbie Does Dallas!

They can be fun if you like to write.

Do you have a yard?

Could you make it a 'project' for yourself, and transform it while your hubby is at work? Doing a bit day by day?

I hope you start feeling less disconnected soon (F)

HIya! I am in the same position being in the UK with my hubby. As we sit here and wait for the next step of his immigration process to the US, there are times when I can get so bored, and then that is when I really get depressed over not seeing my kids, not being able to work, not being able to just get in a car and go. I have for the first time in my life, put all of my dependance on my husband and I hate it. I can tell you what gets me through it. At the end of the day, I close my eyes and I think of it as another day closer to the bigger picture. Being with my husband and starting a new life together in America. I simply cannot wait to get back to the states and start decorating our first home that we choose together, planning holidays together, him getting to know my children, etc. You will get through this I promise!!!! There are lots of lovely people on this site that are more than willing to help you out. There are plenty of local support groups in your area I am sure. Have you tried googling them? Or perahps someone from here may be from your area and may be able to help you out. Ask around...

Big HUGS!!!!

I know its hard. My husband is not working at the moment, and isn't driving yet. Its driving him nuts, and we're not in an area that you can walk to things. Hopefully when he gets a new job, we will be moving into the city where we can walk places.

When can you get your DL? That will at least bring a sense of independence back to you. (((hugs)))

I lived with my fiance for six months in the UK in 05 and didn't work or drive and I had a REALLY bad run of home sickness about two months in. He was wonderful and that made all the difference. Soon after though I managed to get in to a great routine that worked for me. I just reminded myself a lot of people would KILL for the chance to not work for six months. I walked to the gym or into the shops every day...I would only shop for enough groceries for 2 days at a time so I'd have a reason to go to the grocery store more than once a week. I spent a lot of time at the library and just walking around with my ipod on taking everything in and learned that it's OK to have a midmorning/afternoon watching To Buy or Not To Buy/Homes Under the Hammer and Countdown without feeling like a lazy lump. I'd excersise in the morning so I wouldn't feel lazy when I wanted to just sit and read or watch tv while I waited for him to come home. I also experimented in the kitchen and managed some pretty decent stuff and not so decent stuff (those gas marks and different measuresments were my downfall).

I understand how you feel 150% and hope you can find your way out soon. Have you checked out any of the vegas strip? Not for the gambling or shopping, but I've heard some of the casinos have some amazing displays. Doesn't the Bellagio have an amazing art gallery?

Good luck, I hope you feel better soon.

And so he did what countless punk-rock songs had told him to do so many times before: he lived his life

10/07/2006 WEDDING DAY!

11/14/2006 AOS packet made it to 'the box' after being overnighted.

12/02/2006 Paul had biometrics

12/14/2006 AOS Forwarded to CSC AND AP Application approved.

01/17/2007 First touch of 2007 at CSC

01/20/2007 Touched AGAIN (also the 18th) come on...

February: Oops, RFE for a REGISTERED marriage certificate. Oops! Overnighted it.

02/28/2007 Paul gets email letting us know his GREENCARD is on it's way! It's done...for now!

03/09/2007 Paul's greencard arrives. And breathe...

We began with mailing the I-129 in on February 27, 2006 so the whole process took us approx. one year.

Good luck out there!
