This is probably only because they have a backlog of people inquiring. But really this takes like 2 seconds. They email the USCIS and they get back to them in less than an hour. They just must have a loooooot of people inquiring. Call your congressman or assemblyman now.

Oh, I immediately called my congressman after calling the Senator. Turns out the lady who handles immigration assistance requests is at an immigration forum right now. The guy said to call back after lunch to speak to her.

I'm hoping that she'll have some good information for me from this forum. I will definitely ask!

Well Nat, this is what I did. I took the same email form from one Senator with all the info they request, and my signature of permission to dig in my personal info-and I faxed it to all the senators/congressman. Just title it Immigration Department, or get the name of the person who should handle it. I did this, and I got back replies from both of them within the week. They are just going to make you fax that info in anyways, b/c they need your signature as proof that they can have your personal info. Here is the form for my senator attached. Copy and paste the PDF into word, and you can type the info right into the form.

Hope this helps! It will get you started!

Thanks, Cereza.

I already filled out the forms at each of my Senators' websites and my congressman, and faxed all three of them. Now I just follow up with each one every few days requesting a status update. Two of the senators said 2 weeks, but one has already inquired with USCIS. The other senator suggested I call back on Monday. My congressman suggested calling back this afternoon.

I called my Senator's office. Turns out they already made an inquiry on my behalf with USCIS. I asked how long it takes to get a response and he said it averages 30 days!

I hope he was just telling me that and that it doesn't actually take that long to get a response.

Nat,

I believe they are just like a national call center or 911 emergency center.......

you tell them a story, they flip through a half a dozen responses........find one that has a standard reply.......and that's what you get.

I agree 100% with Cereza,

What happened to first come first serve?

I received a response from my congressman's office today. Nothing good.

The lady suggested that I'd get a much more immediate response by scheduling an Infopass appointment, which I could get as early as tomorrow. She said that if she sends in a request, it'll take 3-4 weeks to get a response.

She did seem to think that I'm out of normal processing time, but I still have 21 days before I hit 6 months. I didn't correct her on that, as I could imagine her saying "Oh! Well if you're still within normal processing time..."

I'm going to search this forum to find out if these infopass appointments are even the slightest bit useful. Unfortunately, I would need to drive about 40 minutes each way for the appointment, and I hate to do so if it won't reveal any useful information.

Well keep us updated if you do the infopass appointment! Does it cost anything? I might do one too.

It's free (except for gas, lol).

Someone told me that after going to an infopass appointment, the people there made a request, and she got approved a few days later. I think that's the best-case scenario. Worst case, I'll waste about 2 hours. But after hearing her experience, I went ahead & booked it for tomorrow @ 11:15am.
