I don't mean to sound sexist but I would never leave my 2 year-old little girl in the hands of a 23 year-old guy I just hired to baby sit. Please! Common sense people!

Same. I hate to admit it but I'd never let a man (besides my father and brothers) babysit my daughter. It's just too risky anymore. Heck, I even remember when I worked in daycare years ago, the ONE man who worked in the entire facility was not allowed to change diapers. It's sad and a little scary when things have gotten to that point but unfortunately people are too scared to risk something like this happening.

No, not all are. But I would never hire a perfect male stranger to take care of my 2 year-old little girl. It ain't gonna happen.

And one from Craigslist, to boot. 'Bravo' to the parents (sitter city is a little better I'd say)... what a tragedy for the baby. :(

If I ever have kids I'm hiring a manny

Au pair for us when the time comes.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

that is all well and good and I completely understand but I am sure it would be possible for someone to fake their way through to getting a license...

so I am just curious... lets say you have a choice between two people... the first one is licensed but only has 1 or 2 years experience and the 2nd person has no license but has 15+ years experience.. which one would you choose?

Good question. If the person who's been a nanny for over 15 years, but didn't get their license, I would wonder why they didn't, TBH. I'd probably choose the licensed sitter because there are several requirements - criminal background checks, references, finger printing. Although I suppose it is possible for someone to commit fraud with getting a license, but with criminal background checks and finger printing, it would be extremely difficult and highly unlikely.

I didn't get a license because I didn't think it was necessary and a lot of parents ask for background checks, references etc... which is maybe what these parents should have done, if they didn't...

also what if the person had never committed a crime yet before they got their license?

what sane person answers an ad for a babysitter on Craiglist? hello? The parents really need to consider their ability to take care of that poor child.

well, the people I work for are very sane ...lol

you do have to be careful, I got a couple of responses that seemed really iffy so I didn't respond...
