We really hate this waiting, as I know all of you do as well. I am going to send in her paperwork to our lawyer for her SS# to come in. Anyway, is there anyway she can try to get her GED before her Green Card comes in. She feels useless, stuck at home, not able to work yet, not mastering the language, I just want her to feel like she's doing something, when she gets her SS# I'm going to put her in a free english course in a community college but until then I don't know what to do. Is there anything to do or just wait?

Yes she can attempt to get her GED prior to the social secuirty number. My husband just completed the pre-test. He is actually taking it in Spanish. My husband was allowed to use his Tax ID Number rather than the ss#. Good Luck

Yes, absolutely she can prep to take the GED b/f her GC comes in...

May be helpful to have a ssn when she takes the test for ID purposes, but i don't believe it is mandatory.

That is a great idea, btw.

Good luck!

Wonderful!!!!! How do I go about this? Just start calling GED testing sites in my area? What number can we use for her seeing as though she doesn't have a green card, she has an Alien Registration Number but that's it. Could we use that?

A GED doesn't take you very far these days. If your wife finished the equivalent of High School abroad, she should consider pursuing an Associate Degree at a Community College at a minimum. I'm pretty sure many schools recognize transcripts from foreign countries.

I did my high school and college degrees in Mexico, and my Master's degree in the States. I didn't have to take the GED

Hi! Try to contact some school or college close to your home. I went to college for pretests and was going there 2x week for couple of hours. To me it seemed very easy, sometimes I was surprised by the question coz I was shock how easy it was.

Its very good start for future to get GED. I have certificate from my country, not sure if they recognize it here, when I started research I found it would take too much to be sure if they recognize it or not. Classes were for free, but I needed my social security number, maybe its different in the state u live. After few weeks I decided to take the test, there u definitely need SS#.

Im not planning to study in near future coz I havent decided what I would like to do, but with GED u can continue with studies.

I would recommend to take few pretests and consider taking GED. Math, science and grammar were easy. I didnt like reading, coz there were english poems written in old english and I had no clue what they were asking. And writing wasnt easy too. But I think I passed, I Hope!!! Takes about 4-6 weeks for result. I did mine on NOv 11 & 12. Good luck! Its easy!

Do I need to get GED? I'm from Canada, graduated from grade 12 in year 2006 and went to college for 2 years and got my diploma in Chemical Technology last May 2008. After my graduation, I got a job in research back in Canada as Chemical tecnnologist before I flew here in US. I don't know if US will honour my Diploma.

"Have faith in God, Jesus answered. I'll tell you the truth. if anyone says to this mountain, Go, throw yourself to the sea, and that does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen. it will be done for him. Therefore I'll tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours" (MARK 11:22-24)

There's several education specialist out there who can translate your transcript in college to US equivalent grade. I just did that and I think it helps me when I include it in my resume packet prior to applying. Or you may want to contact the employer and they might have a preference on educational credential evaluators. Good luck to you :star:
