Checking NVC's Official Requirements Before Sending Documents

I've had all the documents required by NVC to continue with the I-130 together for a while now and I've been waiting for NVC to generate requests for them. I've checked my list again and again but today I realized that I had relied entirely on VJ for the list of documents to send to NVC. I searched around and I found the NVC document requirements on the Dept. of State website: http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3195.html.

Had I not looked at this website I would probably have received an RFE. My husband's birth certificate did not have his parents' names on it. He has to make a special request for this kind of birth certificate. He will get one tomorrow and send it express to me so it shouldn't slow us down.

I just wanted to share this so that others don't make the mistake that we almost made. I know most of us plan to send in our packets as soon as our payments are accepted and not wait for NVC's request in the mail.

Also - The birth certificate that we had expires next week! I didn't know a birth certificate could expire!

Yeppers-- and when they say they want the ORIGINAL marriage certificate-THAT REALLY DOES MEAN IN THE NATIVE LANGUAGE OF YOUR SPOUSE! -I now have sent in both actually-because I got an RFE with our English certified version! If they have the certified English version you don't need a translation either!--Good luck and God speed!-Amy
