I am WELL aware of the odd-flower thing, but Natasha has graciously accepted the even-number of flower thing we do here. I think it's only because she gets FLOWERS that she's willing to overlook the 12th (I know that 11 is the preferred 'romantic' number).

Shhhhh, don't tell Natasha, but I'm having a dozen roses delivered today, since she's off work. :-)

That's very nice and romantic. In my house that would be followed up with "Thanks for sending your wife flowers...... now why you buy so cheap flowers, huh? What, they have special deal on internet so you want act like you romantic guy? I know better. You not even little bit or romantic man. You only see chance for save money and maybe got it some sex. It's never gonna happen becuase you cheap. Next time must be diamonds together whis flowers."

Surreptitiously record a private conversation? It would be a hoot, though.

And, for the record (and in case Natasha is reading this) I used a prominent local florist. They must be having a special too because I didn't get charged the usual delivery fee!

But Natasha has commented that the flowers here aren't as nice as the flowers in Russia, generally speaking. I'll post a pic after I have the chance to take one and upload it, then you guys can do some 70's style Olympic scoring.

Here's a link to the flowers from the florist's site. For comparative purposes after I post the 'real' photos, of course!

if even numbers of flower are unlucky why do the flower shops sell them in dozens, why not 11's or some other odd number. I dont believe the even number of flowers is unlucky deal.

Yeah, sorry we didn't pause to explain that. Even numbers of flowers are appropriate for funerals and such over in Russia, and odd numbers for happier events. Go figure.

Right, and florists over there will even ask a foreigner what the flowers are for sometimes to try and keep you from making that mistake. Also, the colors of flowers are significant , but different there. A color that might represent friendship here will signify a relationship's end in Eastern Europe.

What you do is get 11 roses and 1 fake rose. tell her you'll love her untill the last one dies...

Major Brownie points B)

Your women actually fall for that kind of stuff?

My wife would laugh in my face and come up with some big story about the fake rose never being alive, so therefore incapable of dying and thusly, once the "live" roses die, my love is dead for her then. But, probably it's not really love anyway because I'm so cheap I only try save money for buy 11 roses and one not real. You stupid man.

So, back to the helicopter. If my rotor ever falls off, I'm doomed!

Or, god forbid, it is "removed from service." I guess, try to keep her happy is what I'm sayin' here. You don't want to be grounded before your normal service end-of-life.

Awwwwwwwwwww.

Here's a link I just Googled about flowers, colors, and customs. There are probably better links out there, but this one seems to cover the basics. I suspect the colors retain less significance as you get towards the larger cities, but I could be wrong.

AHA! As I recalled (almost). Yellow roses bad.... any other color good!

I try to keep it serviced every day. A well-oiled machine...... I try to log as many "maintenance" hours as possible. I figure the more it's in service, the better it'll function down the road. Without my helicopter, I'm going nowhere fast!

Yea it is a little corny, but when your girl is all "sex and the city/the notebook" drippy eye romance, that little trick parallels something like actually caring about the love story in the Titanic to them. eh

but you can't bring the 11 rose one out on some random wednesday or whatever. gotta wait till she's steaming mad at you, then pull it. if she doesn't break immediately, she will ;) (personal experiance only, try at your own risk)

And slim, maybe you should do the helicopter with the 11 roses. in fact, not to steal your thunder, I might just go for that one.

"Faster, faster, faster, until the thrill of speed overcomes the fear of death"
