Hi, I am in doubt about time at this point:

  • I am from Brazil and I will get my interview in Rio de Janeiro.
  • My case was completed at 11/25.
  • I have an attorney in Ca.
  • I already done the Medical Exam, so I am all ready to take the inteview.

So, my question is, is it correct that I will have to wait until I get a letter from the Brazilian embassy by MAIL in my home in Rio de Janeiro stating the list of extra documents (medical exams) that I will need to provide and then, only after thar I will be able to confirm my appointment, or NVC will set up the interview date, theyn will mail MY ATTORNEY who will communicate with me and mail me the packet 3 so that I will just have to confirm with the Embassy in Rio de Janeiro....

And, if I am all set with Medical Exams, Am I be able to antecipate the interview date...

Thanks for the replies!

Ary

The NVC is now in the process of preparing your file to be sent to the U.S. consulate in Rio. That could take 2-4 weeks. Then Rio reviews your file and contacts whomever you choose and sends along the paperwork you will need to complete so you can apply for your visa. That could be another 2-4 weeks. Mailing your package to the attorney just seems to be a waste of time, because your visa application package is quite easy to prepare and you will get the package a couple of weeks earlier. The consulate may require you to have a new medical exam from a doctor it has certified as trustworthy. Good luck!

If you are a CR1/IR1, my understanding is that the NVC will schedule your appointment then mail the Choice of Agent the appointment information.

For K3 visas, the Emabassy handles scheduling the appointment which begins with sending the packet of information needed by the beneficiary/petitioner.

best of luck...

Hi Aryadne e Kevin,

I don't know if this will apply to you. But what I did was I inquired through email at NVC. I never expected that they will reply soon. My husband in the states could have easily called them but he has been trying to call them for the interview date like 3 times already and I decided to do my part by emailing them. Just follow the format in the NVC site when emailing them. Make your NVC case number the subject. I think if they really do have the appointment, they will reply to you ASAP. I just waited for 2 or 3 days for their reply which is kinda fast I think for an email inquiry. hehehe. Well good luck.

Best regards,

Ynatots

My wife and I filed the K-1, so I am not sure how different your petition is. To expedite and get the interview date faster, we did the following:

* I called NVC to obtain the RDJ#

* Tracked the RDJ shipment to Consulate in Rio on DHL's website (this was tricky, but is possible)

* My wife used the RDJ number and mailed PACKET 3 to the Consulate (to arrive at about the same day or after the RDJ from NVC)

* After all was received, I e-mailed the Rio Consulate this:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

to: ImmigrationRio@state.gov

Hello.

My name is __________. I am inquiring regarding my fiancee's approved petition, RDJ xxxxxxxxxx, for __________.

I believe that you have received both our petition from NVC, as well as the packet 3 from my fiancee ______.

Can you please confirm this? If so, can you tell us when our interview will be scheduled?

Thank you for your time!

Regards,

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

They responded with our interview date. I booked a trip to Rio and we interviewed together. We probably saved about two weeks worth of waiting. If we used an attorney (which we did NOT), we probably would have saved a month!

Good luck to you!!!
