NEED HELP! GREEN CARD LOST IN THE MAIL NEED REPLACEMENT!!!

Hi everyone:

I would really appreciate if some could share their knowledge on green card replacement process. Basically what happened is on November 13, 2008 I received a notice from USCIS saying that "we created a Permanent Resident Card for you and mailed it ....You have notified us the you have not received it and the post office has not returned it to us. We must conclude that it has been lost in the mail. Therefore, you will need to file a Form I-90".

Below is a time line of my application:

Notice of Action: I-751 Application to remove conditional status was received on 10/10/2007

Notice of Removal of Conditional Basis received on 08/21/2008

Waited for 60 days for my card to arrive than followed up with USCIS requesting details.

November 13, 2008 received confirmation from USCIS saying that Green card was lost, file I-90

I called USCIS asking how long it will take and was told it might take up to 6 months. Is there are any way I could expedite this process?

Also it appears that I would have to pay $290 application fee along with $80 biometrics fee because my card mailed by USCIS was not returned to them and therefore, considered to be lost in the mail. I thought I could apply for replacement based on the fact that my authorized card was never received which would exempt me from the fees. Any thoughts on this?

Will it effect my employment status? Can I work while waiting for I-90 to be approved.

Maybe go get a stamp in your passport in the meantime.

see what I did when my gc was never received - it's in my signature. And no, I did NOT pay them anything for a new one - they're the ones sending out cards in mail that does not even require a signature, let aloe is tracked!

You are a legal permanent resident...have a lost card does not mean you lost your status.

If you need to travel, you just need to go for INFOPASS and get a temporary I-551 stamp until your new card arrives.

when you apply for the I-90, you will receive from the mail confirmation/receipt. You can file online and it'll take around 3 months to be processed. I'm not sure if you have to pay for it. Mine was change of name that's why i paid something. You did not lost status at all, you can go make an infopass and get stamped if you needed one.

Hi Milimelo, thanks for the info. It' VERY helpful. I think I'll schedule Infopass to stamp my passport while taking care of all this.

Few questions: what is DL? How come it's valid for four year? How did you get in touch with TSC staff and Congressman's office?

DL is driver's license - don't know how but they gave me the one that's good for 4 years (could be if they used the date when my military card for dependant expires) -- I didn't complain at all.

For Congressman, I found the info on-line based on where we live - Lake county, IN and then had my husband send the letter to the congressman over the online contact form. After that they contacted us to sign the form so they can represent us and to give them whatever information we have. After that, I was in touch with a congressional aide assigned to us via email. We did not contact the TSC staff - the congressman's office did.

you're definately a permanent resident, whether you have the card or not. If you need to travel, you can always go to a local office and get your passport stamped.

You'll be eligible to file for citizenship in a couple of months based on marriage to a US citizen. Instead of wasting your money on the I-90 form, just wait another 2 months until you're ready to file for citizenship and just pay the citizenship fees. Citizenship processing seems to have gotten faster so it won't be long before you get your citizenship interivew/approval..
