Are Americans kept in the dark

I find people everywhere are ignorant, believe what they are taught, accept their governments propaganda as fact, etc.

I've lived in Germany, Norway and now the UAE and in each of those countries (*minus Germany: they complain about everyone, everything, everywhere) the people thought their country was the best and that everyone wanted to move there and live like them. I find that Europeans and Arabs are just as ignorant as Americans. Europeans are just arrogant enough to claim that they aren't ignorant. Europeans travel more but what do they do while abroad? Exactly what they did while at home. Usually, hang out with other people from their own culture, go to bars at night, binge drink, sleep around with/without protection, then wake up with a splitting hangover and go to the beach. Meanwhile, the unemployment rate in mainland Europe on a normal day is regularly double the US unemployment rate when we're doing bad. People in Norway have Universal healthcare but die while waiting in the que when if they'd spent the extra money on private insurance and been treated by a private doctor they could have lived. But hey, they died for free so that's what counts to socialists. Due to the generous welfare system in Europe and despite their stricter immigration rules, they are seeing an influx of muslim and other immigrants from Turkey & Pakistan and elsewhere whose sole ambition is to get on their overly generous welfare system straining it even further. Could you imagine the influx of immigrants we'd have if we adopted the Euro welfare model? We'd be overrun.

To be honest, I liked the states better under Clinton. Bush has really ruined the country and is actually why I left the states years ago but now i'm faced with returning since life in the states on a bad day is still better than being in the middle east on it's best day. That said, I do think the roads and public transport are far superior in Europe and I like that everyone prefers organic to GM crops, get's a month's vacation, the violent crime rate is lower and people recycle more there. I really hope one day employers in the US will give as many vacation days as that wrinkled old white sod in the White House is getting. I also hope that the government and police departments realize that the greatest terrorist threat to America aren't on the other side of the world rather they are the gangs operating in the ghettos of the US. The US has more top-ranked Universities but I do believe that high-schools in northern Europe are better. At the end of the day, I think one western country is as good as another it just depends on what your particular preferences are. I don't think the US or Europe is number one. They both have their pluses and minuses. But i'm still amazed that people in the UAE think their country is the best. It's easy to build skyscrapers when you are importing slave laborers from Asia and deporting them without pay when they protest their unsafe/unfair working conditions. If Europeans think the US is the epitome of unrestrained capitalist greed then they are more ignorant than they let on.

I hope Obama is able to repair a lot of what Bush has ###### up but I think it will take more than 4 yrs for anyone to do that. I think there is a big generational gap in thinking in the US. I suspect many things will change for the better in the US and the world when the babyboom generation are all in nursing homes having wheelchair races instead of running the world. Let's hope but don't forget to knock on wood.

Well, Americans are too busy working their ####### off. The average income for most Americans is about 22,000 dollars according to the IRS. They are poorer than their European counterparts. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I think that's why Obama won by a landslide. Most of us who earn less than $250k don't care about him raising taxes.

It's born and bred. I won't even bother responding to the rest.

You are a truck driver right? How much does the average truckie earn here again. Anywhere near the $130K interstate / mine drivers get in AUS..

Plus we have better roads which are well marked and easier to drive on an night. All trucks even have an extra axle to reduce wear on the roads.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.
