Has anyone thought about having their SO get their international drivers license so that when they immigrate to the US they will be able to drive prior to getting their state issued drivers license? Does anyone know anything about it?

Does he have licensse from his home country??? Because those so called international DL is a translation of the original one.

Read the driver`s manual in the state you live in. In my state, VA, when I was getting license I noticed that it said you can drive on foreign country licence for up to 6 month while visiting but I don`t know if it is still active.

NattyBumppo,

Key words: "You must get an International Driver's Permit from your home country. "

Further, I look to my Law Enforcement credentials, experience, colleagues, friends and so forth. Thanks for playing. Reality is in play here bro.

my wife went to driving school in china, paid 60$ for a dozen eggs at a shop owned by the instructor's sister, and got her liscense. we bought an IDL translation card over the net based on her chinese liscense, and this combination is valid in penna for up to a year. she has since taken the penna learner's permit and is in the clear till her practical test date. can she parallel park? maybe, maybe not.

LE credentials, experience, "colleagues, and so forth" only carry one as far as YOUR words ... best for the person to research and get the correct answers from the State in which they reside.

Unless you are now dispensing free legal advice on the internet ....
