I've been checking my records to see which vaccines if any I need. I see that the USCIS has now made the HPV vaccine mandatory. I'm 24 years old, and wasn't planning on getting this vaccine... I guess I have to now!?

Two questions - Is the medical exam complete even if the vaccine isn't (i.e. Gardasil, the HPV vaccine, is 3 doses over 6 months)? Also, do I need to get my doctor in Canada to send my file, or having my vaccine records my mom kept (she sent me an email listing them and the dates) good enough?

ROC Journey:

01/19/11 I-751 & ROC package sent via USPS Priority

01/21/11 Package delivered to California Service Center

01/25/11 Check cashed

03/07/11 Biometrics

04/14/11 Approval Notice Date

04/18/11 Approval Notice Received

1. Yes, HPV is mandatory for women under 26. You don't need to complete the series, just get the first dose and the doctor will mark it completed. It's up to you to get the other doses. Just so you know, many people don't ever get more than the first dose to satisfy the requirement. It's not cheap either.

2. You will need medical records or a DS-3025 (vaccination worksheet) to prove what vaccines you have. I doubt that the civil surgeon will accept an email from your mom as proof of vaccination.

hi! if i were you, the doctor in the medical will evaluate on what vaccines you'll be needing.

your medical exam can be compete if the vaccine isn't coz you have the option to get it in the us.

gather all the documents that you can have to avoid delays. it is more acceptable if the record comes from a doctor.

these answers are just based on my experience, but i'm here in manila. but i hope i was able to give ideas.

good luck!

Hi!

Here's the USCIS document on the new vaccine/TB skin test requirements. Depending on when the medical was done, you may or may not need something new... If you had your medical before August 1st, 2008, then the HPV vaccine is NOT required at all.

Here are the impt dates from that website.

Date of Medical Exam

Do I have to submit the revised Form I-693?

Does the medical exam have to be done in accordance with the new TB requirements?

Do I have to receive the new vaccines (if age appropriate?)

Do not let the doctor try to get you to do more than you need, a new medical is not needed if you've had your medical within the last year. It says so clearly in the instructions for the I-693. David and I paid $25 for the transcription. Call around to different Civil Surgeons or use Dr. Arnold on the first page of the I-693 info (see link below).

Go with copies of all the printed documents. The I-693 instructions and the print out of the website that I gave you above.

Here are the I-693 instructions.

Get your doctor to send you your vaccination records if you don't have a copy of the DS-3025 that was done for the medical (the copy of your vaccination records done for the medical overseas).

Assuming that they are K-1 visas, of course.
