I just found this forum today and I have a few questions:

I met my wife about 2 years ago in Mexico. We wanted to get married in Mexico, but later found out that it was quicker to get a K-1 Fiancee visa than a K-3/4 visa. We applied for a K-1 visa and in the mean time we had a child in Mexico. Since I am an American citizen we went to the US embassy and got a report of birth abroad for my daughter and our daughter had her US passport within a week. My wife came to the US last year on a K-1 visa. We got married last year on October and we applied for Adjustment of Status. We have her interview this week and her English is still not very good.

1. Can I be her interpreter? If not can my mom be her interpreter or do we need to get a "certified" interpreter? If I need a "certified" interpreter does anyone know of any good/cheap interpreters in the Detroit area?

2. Can our daughter come to the interview with us or do we need to find someone to take care of her? (She is only 18 months old.)

3. I really don't have a lot of paper work with both of our names, house is still just in my name, bank account still just in my name. For example the bank would not let me add her to my account because she didn't have a social security number. We have a ton of pictures from different places will that be good enough?

Thanks in Advance!

For an marriage based AOS interview, the spouse CANNOT act as interpreter.

Interpreter must be over 18. Fluent in both languages. Must be a legal permanent resident or a USC. No official "certification" needed

They usually want paperwork with both your names on it, but you can't do much now that it is the last minute. I would suggest getting relatives and friends, at least two people, to write Affidavits attesting to your relationship. They need to be notarized too, that is simple to do. The Affidavit will mention the person's name, address, phone, birthdate and birthplace, and how long they have known both of you, how you have a loving relationship and they see you together regularly, etc. Be sure to bring copies of your marriage certificate too. Good luck!

Be prepared to leave some pictures with the Officer at the interview.

Do you have things sent to her at your shared address? Credit card offers, etc? Have you added her and your daughter to your insurance? I provided our shared Costco/Sam's Club membership. Think creatively.

Don't worry, your child is very good evidence of you two having a truthfull marriage!

Bringing your daughter is tricky because you don't want her acting up and ruining the interview! Definitely bring her birth certificate though!
