Got a question about the I-134...I got copies from the IRS of my tax transcripts for 2006, 07, and 08. Only in 07, 08 did I meet the minimum requirements, and I still do at the same job. Do you think I should just leave 06 transcripts out? I've seen recomendations for 3 years, but what the embassy sent us was this:

2. Impuestos Federales (Formularios 1040 y W-2) Fotocopias de los impuestos federales pagados por su prometido(a) en los últimos dos años.

which says Federal Taxes (Forms 1040 & W-2) Photocopies of paid federal taxes by your fiance in the last 2 years.

Do you think I should even use the tax transcripts or just literally photocopy my 1040 and W-2 for 2007 and 2008???

After writing all this out, I feel like it's a dumb question with an obvious answer: forget the tax transcripts, just copy your 1040 & W-2 from 07 and 08, but opinions are welcome! (where's the smiley for pulling your hair out?!?!?)

I don't have a clue about the american tax system but from discussions in the UK forum either tax transcripts or tax returns (1040?) are accepted. You'd think they would make it easier by saying one or the other not 'take your pick'.

I am planning to include taxes from 05, 06, 07. I have not filed my 2008 yet because I have been in Nica. I did mine on Turbo Tax so I was able to go to their website and down load each year. I am including all the pages, is that too much. I am also including information about the money I have saved in my pension and TDA...retirement funds. I am getting a letter from my employer. They are going to hire Balvino too once he can work, should I have them write a letter for him too? It is fun gathering all this info but nerve racking as well. Is there a thread about getting ready for the interview?

The difference between using the tax return vs. tax transcripts is that the return includes Forms 1040, W-2 and 1099, (plus all other accompanying schedules) whereas the transcript is free, ordered from the IRS, and is usually just a page or two long. Some find obtaining and sending copies of the transcript easier. I have transcripts from 2006 and 2007, but a copy of my return from 2008.

I mailed everything to my fiancée on Friday. She should have the rest of Packet 3 ready in two week's time to send in. We're hoping on an April interview date.

Thanks...your right. I looked and the 1040 is the first set of papers in my return. I am just going to submit those with my W2s...do you need both the 1040 and the W2s?

Well since all it says on mine is 1040 & W-2 for 2 years that's what I'm going to send, for 07 and 08. It works out fine because like I said in 06 I didn't meet the minimum. That with the letter from my employer is pretty much all I'll put in there because I make more than the min required, so I won't have to mess with bank statements, savings, etc. I think I'll just not worry about the transcripts since they specifically ask for 1040 & W-2. If you do need the transcripts, they're super easy to get:

You must include ALL applicable schedules for your tax returns to be considered complete. If all you had were 1040 and W-2's, so be it, but if there are any other forms you sent in, they should be included as well (otherwise it would not be a complete tax return).

I know! It is best to keep track of everything but take this one step at a time. I am looking at getting his SSN and then I will start to look at the rest. I can not handle it all at once...it makes me crazy. :bonk:

We are still waiting on NVC's letter as well, however our petition has already left NVC and shall be delivered to the Bangkok Consulate tomorrow (I love DHL tracking).

I agree with Johan and Anne that it has probably already gone through NVC and may be at the consulate right now.

Totally off topic but I just had a brand new haircut to make me feel better and I think it worked! It's a bit different but easy to look after.

I know what you mean, "the hair high" you get after you have been to the salon! :star:

That makes me want to go!
