Accusations of elitism in the media regarding Barack Obama are based on a false premise. His comments about "bitter people" might be described as snobbish. They aren't elitist.

If Obama was an elitist - I suspect he'd be pushing for the right of the rich (for example) to rule.

You can't run for president without being some sort of elite.

You can however, be an elite - without say, being a cigar-chomping ego-maniac who doesn't deign to speak to people that you consider "beneath you".
