totally. The words are not interchangeable but people are using them as such...

Accusations of elitism in the media regarding Barack Obama are based on a false premise. His comments about "bitter people" might be described as snobbish. They aren't elitist.

If Obama was an elitist - I suspect he'd be pushing for the right of the rich (for example) to rule.

I disagree.

'

He said 'they cling to their guns & religion' - he spoke with a perception that he/Dems are better than them....thereby making him an elitist.

What you're describing there is snobbery. Of two kinds actually - as its also somewhat snobbish to use a "high sounding" word where a simple one will do.

In political terms - elitism is about rule by a privileged few.

It's confusing - 2 threads, same topic!

Anyhow, as I said over there....

but he himself can be(is, IMO) an elitist - politics aside.

If indeed he believes that government should be solely represented by people who think like him.

Or people that make the cash that the top 0.1% of the nation's money makers do. And I don't think he does... so...

So looking at it the right way, neither McCain nor Obama are elitists.

Moving on.

They're Elites, yes.

Elitists - no.

It's just one of those things that people often get confused about. Like saying 'bateng' when they mean 'zebu'.

Here is a bateng:

Here is a zebu:

There is no need to thank me.

So, really if you think about it: either neither one is an elitist, or both men (and their followers) are because they thinnk they are better than others.

Why the heck run for the highest office in the land if they didn't think they were an elite in some form or another??

Nor are either a member of a political elite - the political elite is the province of communism and dictatorship, you can't be elected into a poltical elite, that's a contradiction in terms.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Hilarious quiz....

http://politicalhumor.about.com/library/bl..._obama_quiz.htm

My score: Your score is 1 on a scale of 1 to 10. You are a fierce opponent of Barack Obama. He is the embodiment of everything you despise in a politician: an elitist, morally superior, gun-grabbing, religion-bashing, terrorist-coddling appeaser who threatens all that is good and decent in America. Plus, he bowls like a girl.
