Hi! You can try this lawyer's website http://www.arctec.com/

They are very good and with reasonable fee.

Yeah they are the one who handle my k1 visa although I like the service I decided to do it myself this time by just reading here at visajourney

HEllo everyone

me and my husband were thinking of filing for ourself to adjust my status, but it turned out to be complicated , and now we r looking for a lawyer in, my question is , what should we ask the lawyer to know he is a good one ! and how he can help us the more accurate way ...

thank you

There is a few things need to be considered when hiring a lawyer:

1.) Make sure you'll hire a board certified immigration attorney.

2.) Ask their area of specialty in immigration case and their years of experience.

3.) You can also look at superlawyers.com in your area. Their fees might be more experience compare to other attorneys, but I think you'll get for what you pay for

Hope this help

Largest immigration law firm in Houston, and EXCELLENT.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Hi Namilombardi,

I agree, with certain situations that are too difficult to handle, one is best to hire an immigration lawyer to help out, instead of taking the risk of doing it themselves and running into more serious immigration problems later on. "Better safe than sorry", I suppose.

In our situation for the AOS, we had to hire an immigration lawyer, as ours was an "unusual" case and we couldn't do it ourselves. See my VJ timeline (the link can be found on my signature below) for more info. We "shopped around" for different lawyers, until we hired one that we liked and was helpful and cost-effective towards our case.

Here are the things that we did when we were looking around for lawyers for the AOS:

1) Searched on the internet and the phone book for immigration lawyers in our area. Shopped around for many different lawyers, as we wanted to find the best one and at a reasonable cost for our case.

2) Made sure they were a qualified lawyer, specializing in the practice area of immigration, and preferably with many years of experience too.

3) Asked them how much they charged. Do they charge by the hour? By the case, etc.? Negociated costs with them, and method of payment (payment plans, one-time fees, etc.). Asked exactly all the costs and expenses involved we were paying them for (dispersements, mailing fees, by-the-hour, overtime, etc.)

4) Asked them if they can do a phone consultation beforehand and/or can evulate in-person for free or at a discounted fee before hiring them. Explained our full situation first, then decided to hire them, based on all their answers as to what they were going to do for our case.

5) If you can, get recommendations from others, like here on VJ for example, (in our case we found it ourselves though). By the way, if you need the information about the immigration lawyer that we used for the AOS, feel free to PM me, and I'll reply back with that specific information.

Hope this helps. Good luck with the rest of your immigration journey.

Ant

P.S. For the stage that I'm going through now (the I-751 Removal of Conditions), we decided to do it ourselves, as it was pretty straight-forward and we wanted to save costs there.
