A graphical representation of the Obama and McCain tax plans and how they affect different income brackets.

It was a stupid example

We don't agree with 99.9999999% of what the each other writes, so of course the example will be stupid to you and your cronies here.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Democratic vice presidential candidate Joe Biden says that paying higher taxes is the patriotic thing to do for wealthier Americans.

Biden says he and Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama want to "take money and put it back in the pocket of middle-class people."

Under the Democrats' economic plan, people earning more than $250,000 a year would pay more in taxes while those earning less — the vast majority of American taxpayers — would receive a tax cut.

The trouble is, Obama isn't going to give us a tax cut. He will give us a tax rebate. That means that the 40% of workers that pay little or nothing in taxes will get a check. That isn't a tax cut, that is a redistribution of wealth. It will do nothing to solve the deficit problem.

Money that will be spent supporting our economy. ;)

No trouble there. And yes, the tax cut itself can be legislated. As it can also be modified to be more in tune with the times. Otherwise, the current rates set wouldn't need to be revised/renewed/expired to make way for new legislation.

So you like the idea of redistrabution of wealth. And you wonder why the "socialist" label gets thrown around.

Socialist to you. Necessary for the rest of the nation.

I can bold my own text for your benefit.

Not socialist just to me, redistrabution of wealth is a socialist cornerstone along with the government owning essential business. It is never necessary for the rest of the nation. It's class warfare.

i think the most rational thing would be everybody pays the same % of taxes, like x% of their income. Call me crazy, but for me, it makes no sense it isn't that way, unless there is a good reason, like it would be terrible for the economy, i don't see why people should be punished for making more money, it's totally ridiculous and unfair.

Punishment is not getting taxed past a cap of one's income. I fail to see how detrimental it would be for a rich person that didn't need the money to have to pay a pittance on what already makes them financially apical to the rest of the nation... while the absolute majority end up paying more proportionally for cost of living and market items than the rich.

Sure... your idea would work if everybody made somewhere around the same general range of income.

Who are you to say they don't need it? Who died and made you god?

Why don't you ask your fiancee what people there think of Americans..

the problems people have with americans where i am has nothing to do with movies/hollywood/video games

Which I never said was the problem. All I said was that this constant flow of negative movies where someone is almost always fighting the US government, which is portrayed as being corrupt, has a subconscious influence of peoples views of America. Especially amongst people who have never been here and only have what they see on the news and in movies to go by.

 OK Gary.

So is anything and everything that has to do with nationalized everything else that carries a dollar amount. Does that satisfy your laissez faire attitude to letting the rich get richer while the rest of the population, all 98% of us including you, support them. No siree.

If it were a matter of everyone else being stable economically you know most people wouldn't care. But the current economical climate is a direct result of such irresponsible socioeconomics and no matter how well you think you're doing now, it doesn't convince everyone else out there that is struggling.

Welcome back, Gary!

Um... need is pretty easy to gauge and even compare... Nice to see you defending the indefensible hoarding of money while all too many are out there wondering how they'll be paying their mortgages next month. ;)

eta:

Like I wrote in that particular reply: it would work if everyone made the same amount within a particular range. Before you cry third world salary, consider that if it is a Conservative Mantra that the top tier of American earners (1-2%) pays such a large proportion of America's tax burden, its probably logically tied to that top tier earning so much money.

Such that... ummm... their earnings eclipse more than just a small portion of the US population's earning capability.

How is taxing the rich going to stop this?

It's nice to see your out of your shell. Your comments are pure class warfare. Advocating socialism like this is very telling. At least your honest enough to admitt it. Although I will never be rich (unless Luz wins the lottery) I don't begrudge them one dime as long as it was made honestly.

How is taxing the rich going to stop this?

by giving less affluent people a tax break?
