Hi everybody,

It's me, and I have another question. When I'm making copies of documents, should they be color or black and white? Should I have them enlarged?

Thanks!

Make "photocopies" of the documents.

Because it was most convenient for us, we made all our copies at home, using the computer scanner/inkjet printer. We made them all in color, neither enlarged nor reduced.

I haven't read any hard and fast rules on this point. I'm sure plenty of other folks have used black and white Xerox machines to make their copies.

I suspect that, as long as things are clear, legible and unaltered, you'll be OK. If you send photocopies of anything important, they won't completely trust them anyway -- they'll want to examine the originals at the interview.

Okay, so am I supposed to make color copies of my passport pages? Airline tickets? Etc? Everything that has color? Please elaborate. I'm still confused.

Should I send the originals, photocopies, or copies? Now, I'm even more confused.

Hi MikeandJoana,

Black and white photocopies should be fine; they're more concerned with the content being accurate and legible than how pretty things look. Just make sure everything is clear and readable--you might want to put notes or arrows pointing toward key dates and information.

Also, at this stage you should send in copies and copies alone--the package could get lost or misplaced, so you definitely don't want to lose the originals. I think that most people make two copies of the complete packet, and send one of the copies in while keeping the other as a back-up in case it's needed (so you'll have a back-up and an original still in your possession after sending the first packet in). Once the I-129F petition is approved through USCIS, the beneficiary can then take the originals to his or her interview (where they might be required).

Hope this helps, and good luck!

I don't think it really matters, but I chose to make anything I copied that was originally in color, copied in color as well. I keep hearing "read and interpret literally" and it says "exact copies", so I did just that. As all items are to be at the interview for further inspection later on, I don't think it will matter if copies are in color or B&W, just that they be legible. DO NOT send in originals, take them to the interview. Good luck!!

If I understand it correctly, we need to send the original I-129f form and g-325A form and the photocopies of documents are only for supporting documents like airline tickets, etc??

Supporting documents, and a copy of petitioner's birth certificate (unless using passport for proof of citizenship, in which case, those photocopies) and in my case, my marriage certificate showing my legal name change from my birth certificate as well as my divorce decree.
