Yep, Gary has made attempts to tell people they're scared of Palin because they're crawling all over her political history and personal life much the same way that's done to celebrities.

I doubt anyone's fallen for it though, besides him.

I think its silly personally - because the woman is suddenly thrust into the public eye we're supposed to be surprised and appalled that she's on the receiving end of all media background digging that everyone else was subjected to. Give it a week and the emphasis will be one something or someone else (unless Miss Palin turns out to have a very large skeleton in her closet).

Anyone who is surprised by this has a very short memory IMO. And a selective one at that...

Absolutely - we got slews of Clinton, Obama and McCain articles. Now Sarah Palin gets her turn.

In fact this should be expected to be honest - and there's nothing really wrong with it. The emphasis on her daughter may well be wrong, but it is perfectly right that she be subjected to independent scrutiny via the media (even if the US media is rather hopeless at horning on issues of substance).

Its no different. What people like Gary lack when it comes to this sort of thing is a sense of perspective and basic honesty. He has done the exact same thing to both Clinton and Obama - and now he's bleating because he thinks the treatment Palin is receiving is unfair. The truth here is that demonising the opposition is what the media-oversaturated political system has taught hardcore partisans to do - because its fairly clear that Gary wouldn't vote for any Democrat in a million years - even IF it were in his own self interest to do so.
