i moved to america with my family....i have a green card and have been living here five years......im eligable to apply for citizenship, but i want to marry the us citizen i live with. Can i still marry him without messing up my citizenshipp process...

I would suggest looking into how long the citizenship process would take, you may find that consideraly quicker then any visa process you would go through, alternatively seeing as though you already have your green card there is probably a good chance that you would not have to go though a visa process and simply would be a normal marriage.

it takes 8 to 9 months..........but since im already eligible for citizenship,if i didnt hand in the papers and just got married would the process be different mariage wise....the only info i can find is the people who are not green card holders and want to marry a citizen :star:

See i think that you wouldnt have an issue with the marriage idea simply because the end result of going through the k visa process is a green card... which you already have

In saying that im not a 100% on that idea, best bet would be to give them a call.

So you are a LPR with a 10 year green card? If this is the case, why would you have to file anyting with USCIS? I don't know for sure, but if you're already a permanent resident, you don't have any need to adjust status in order to obtain a green card, you already have one. You are eligible for citizenship on your own, independant of marriage. Hopefully this is the way it works so it will be nice and easy. Perhaps someone with more knowledge will chime in soon.

Marrying will have zero effect on your application for U.S. citizenship.

you can get married without any effect. the only difference in being married to a usc is that you can apply for citizenship after 3 years of marriage , but since you are already eligible there is no effect.
