Duchovny look old these days. I can't believe the X-Files started 15 years ago....

Yup, he looks old, but he is 48, hardly a spring chicken. Personally, I think he's damn sexy! :D

He is HOT !

Wow. If i could pick a sexy pose it sure would be one where you press the bottoms of your feet together and hold them up so we can all get a gander at tighty whitey banana hammocks.

I guess sex can be an addiction in the same way that gambling can be but I suppose the main point is if you believe the way you behave is a problem then you will seek to fix that behaviour and I am not sure why that would be seen as an odd thing to do.

I personally think it's an excuse to cover up his cheating. From what I've read he's cheated on his wife several times and is going to rehab to keep his family. So now his wife is supposed to say "oooooh it's not your fault honey, you just need help so go get it". And everything's all good.

Just be honest, you cheated because you could and are only going to rehab for a "sex addiction" because you got caught. Pretty clever I have to say.

Yeah - I can't say I know much about the background to the "condition" but sex-addiction has faux syndrome written all over it.

If you cheat on your spouse - "I can't help myself" or "its a medical/psychological/behavioural problem" doesn't seem like a reasonable response. Its blame shifting by proxy.

How exactly does it 'cover up' that behaviour? What you are saying is that he's using addiction as an excuse for his behaviour which is all fine and dandy if you don't seek to change your behaviour, that works. However, if you are seeking to change your behaviour by attending a clinic how is this 'covering up'? I would have thought it was bringing it right out into the open.

Whether this is a syndrome or not, cheating is anti social behaviour and if you recognize it and want to try to change it, isn't that a good thing?

Perhaps Duchovny and Michael Douglas could star in a remake of that old Hammer Horror movie about possessed body parts acting against the owner's will.

It is - I'm just objecting to the terminology and the idea of "sex addiction" as part of a rehab culture where the behaviour is "a disease" and not the person's fault.

I mean cheating is cheating - can you reasonably say that doing it is not within the control of the cheater?

Clearly it is - I mean is this idea of sex-addiction about the person not being able to control themselves and having to penetrate any woman they see, or is it about dissatisfactions within say, a marriage which the couple would need to work out through therapy (perhaps a low-sex relationship?).

I don't know enough about it to be certain, I just wonder what the point is of seeking to suggest that he's continuing to hide a problem if he is recognizing that it is a problem (whatever you want to name it) and seeking help with that problem? I am not sure that by calling oneself a 'sex addict' you automatically absolve yourself from responsibility - in fact in other areas of addiction that's not true, so why should it be with this one?

Addiction explains why certain behaviours become the focus of the addicts world, they don't absolve the addict from the responsibility for doing the things they do as an addict. The route to a cure is to recognize that their behaviour is down to them and not whatever they are addicted to.

Well, that's what I think. I like the guy but I'm sure glad I'm not married to him 'cause if I get this ####### at home no rehab facility will make me not file for divorce. Cheating is cheating.

As I said its not him specifically - just the idea of sex addiction as a disease requiring treatment that I find hard to swallow.

I dunno if sex can be classified as an addiction - as much as a "compulsion". But it seems to me that if you cheat - the problem is fundamentally between a married couple, not just the individual.

I don't know the guy, so I have no idea if he is nice, horrid, whatever. I don't know enough about the theory of sex addiction to know if it's a 'real' addiction or a syndrome or a compulsion. I just don't see how if someone is standing up and saying "I have been cheating on my wife and I want to address this situation with counselling" that's somehow absolving himself of his responsibility/role as a cheater.

I can however see the point of someone claiming to be a sex addict as some kind of badge of honour and not doing anything about it as a way of excusing themselves from responsibility.

I guess the real thing is, what the clinic hopes to achieve and what the person entering the clinic hopes to achieve by doing so.

My confession:

When I bumped into David Duchovny when he was probably leaving a film set at the old Justice Institute in West Point Grey, Vancouver, not long after I moved there and was teaching karate at that gym...mmmm...he is/was more handsome in person...early in the year, maybe February of 1995.

Well, he was in his Foxx Mulder outfit and I was in my gi.

He was heading down the parking lot and i was heading uphill to the gym.

He looked at me up and down.

I must have been a sight: intense, going over the class I was going to give in my mind.

And I looked at him long, realizing that this was not a mirage.

I was quite the X-Files fan back then.

He smiled and I smiled...we passed eachother.

No words.

Damn!

I should have nuzzled up to him!!!!

Hahaha!
