Most likely an approval notice followed by a green card in the mail.

What is next is just waiting. UNLESS you want to take action!

There was a memorandum modifying existing guidance in Feb. 2008, which contains the following quote: "Where the application is otherwise approvable and the FBI name check request has been pending for more than 180 days, the adjudicator shall approve the I-485, I-601, I-687, or I-698 and proceed with card issuance. The FBI has committed to providing FBI name check results within this time frame."

You need to print up that Memorandum and send it to USCIS (be sure to include your case number and all details in your cover letter) and request immediate action. Others have also found quick action by contacting their congressman, who will contact USCIS demanding action.

Congress Reps

They are legally obligated now to give you your green card. So get on it!

I copied the following info from a post on VJ, to confirm that you are delayed due to the name check only:

Hi all,

My husband and I just attended our AOS I-485 interview last Thursday, 9/20, for K-3 visa adjustment to Permanent Resident status. We were told our case was already approved, however, it was pending the FBI name check to be completed before they can send out the Welcome letter/ GC. We investigated how to get NC status from FBI, and found the numbers listed below. But before you get too excited, we want to let you know after trying the first line highlighted below, we got transferred to a recording which says, "FBI no longer provides status by phone, fax, or mail. For more information please visit our website address at: http://www.fbi.gov/page2/nationalnamecheck.htm "

The website page definitely sheds some light on the whole NC process, but really leaves you with no alternative but contacting USCIS for status. While the regular USCIS Customer Service Rep's don't have the computer access level to give status of Name Checks, you can request to speak with an Immigration Officer, and they DO have the computer access level to look up NC status for you. We have had success with this twice, so wanted to share our experience with others. Successful journey to all...
