Hi, my attorney is attempting to gouge me for an extra $1000 and I'm thinking of dropping him if I can't get him to honor the >$2000 I already paid him.

I am at the NVC stage, I just had a case # assigned.

Does anyone know how I change the Agent to me (the petitioner) and how long this will delay things? Does anyone have any experience doing this?

Please help.

$2000 just to have someone copy information you give them over to the forms. OUCH!

Contact NVC about it, and you will probably be filing a DS-3032 http://www.state.gov/documents/organization/80023.pdf

There is no online change of address at this stage, you are thinking of the AR-11 which is for resident aliens living in the USA to change address.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

You must be rich..you paid that much..Am victim of the Immigration agency in the philippines...They asked 500 dollars promising they can expedite my papers....and I found out in the US EMbassy that Agency cant expedite. They told us to get our papers back and just wait for the notice...If you read and follow the instruction in your application form thats all you need...and wait for the notice..www.uscis.gov....read the application for instructions..or call the embassy and tell them whats the attorney doing. They will help you.Really petition dont need lawyers and agency...I learned it by myself.Read the website of the www.uscis.gov.

The only expenses in applying petition is the application fee and gathering of other documents needed thats all...then wait for your notice...you could do it your own without attorney for sure.

I get what you're saying (you overpaid, etc etc). Truthfully I do make good money so the $2000 was the last thing on my mind. I needed the piece of mind knowing I wouldn't get any documents sent back to me. Keep in mind when I applied (December 07) it was taking 2 months just to get acknowledgment of arrival from VSC. A simple mistake on a form would have delayed my wife getting here 2+ months.

Does anyone have any experience changing the agent once it is in the NVC stage? I need to know how long it might delay things. I want my wife here by our 1 year anniversary.

I'd have the applicant (now the beneficiary) mail a DS-3032 and email the same verbiage to NVC ASAP.

You can check the Wiki for info, or send me a message if you need help.

I don't think it should delay things at this stage....as long as you keep on top of the fees (try using shortcuts in Wiki),

have all your paperwork ready for I-864 and DS-230.

I know a lot of people think $2K or even $3K is a lot of money, but as you mentioned...it's relative...and when we're talking about being joined with our spouses,

we say "Ain't no mountain high enough, ain't no valley low enough, to keep me from you". I mean, if you knew the world was going to end tomorrow, would it make any difference that you had an extra $2K or would it make a difference that you tried everything possible to be with your spouse?

Curious...what's he saying this extra $1K is for?

Did you make too many phone calls to him?

I'm guessing $300/hr and even a 5 minute phone call gets billed .25 hours.
