Sorry my net died in the middle of posting it seems. Anyway...

I'm so upset...I mailed out my packet on the 25th and it was received on the 28th. I checked and checked to see if the check was cashed, especially after someone who's packet was received the same day as mine had their cash checked. Nothing. Got a little worried but thought maybe I was just unlucky in the order they processed at. Well I get the mail and there's a package from the Dept of Homeland Security. Inside was my entire application packet and check and a paper stating that I needed to resubmit with the proper amount written on the check. Since I don't have a checking account and wanted to be able to track when they cashed the payment, I had my mom write a check for me. In the numerical amount, she wrote $455.00 but in the 'written out' part she wrote Four Hundred and 55/100. I'm so...so angry. But at myself. Because I noticed it and I almost said something but, being stupid, I figured since the number part was correct it wouldn't matter. Now I have to start all over. I can't even express how angry I am with myself. My mom's trying to make me feel better by saying it's only added a few weeks to the process but I still can't stop blaming myself. :star:

And a question....does anyone know if there is a problem with the check being from someone besides the petitioner?

I actually have heard of such a problem. This time get a money order.

Sorry to hear that Michelle. :(

I haven't heard of any issues using someone else's check.

VSC seems to have a problem if your (petioner's) former address is on the check but not if someone else entirely wrote it. Crazy! Or perhaps it's just the inconsistencies of those who process the payment before dropping it into the abyss. Who knows. I think you should be all set with your mom's check but like everything else in this process... uncertainty.

I hope it sorts itself out!

Money order or certified check. Banks are pretty good about NOT making those mistakes.

I know how you feel. We'd been hoping to do everything at the US Embassy in Tokyo...didn't find out that I had to live there for 6 months until we were there.

Lots of time and money wasted. It sucks thinking about how you could've done things differently, but don't kick yourself for it. Just be glad that things are moving

in the right direction...and stay the course.

Best of luck.
