I just recently found this forum and I am so glad I did, so many helpful info!

I have a question, this is my situation...

I have known my fiancee since we were kids. We were schoolmates in elemtary school, I used tio make fun of her everyday and sorry to say I was the bully. We graduated and went to separate high schools, she went to an all girls school I went to an al boys school in the Philippines. We dated when we were in high school then I had to leave for the states after my graduation. We kept in touch with cards, letters until around 1999, lost contact. She had 2 beautiful girl and boy, 7 and 8 years old (SHE NEVER MARRIED).

In 2003 I went back to the Philippines for a funeral, and we met, I met her kids as well.

Now in Febuary of 2008 we saw each other online and we started talking again, both single so in April the 7th we renewed our bond. I decided that I lost her once I am never loosing her again, so on July the 5th 2008 I went back to the Philippines and proposed, we are now engaged!

Now after 14 years one might think all the letters I've sent may have been tossed in the garbage longtime ago but not with my fiancee, she kept every sinle letter and card I have sent her since 1994! I WAS VERY SURPRISED, I had tears in my eyes when she showed me!

NOW HERES MY QUESTION since i just posted my situation and a little history.

Since we just renewed our bond last month - July 2008, will this be an issue filing my application (K1 VISA) to get her here? Yes I am an American Citizen. Her children of 7 and 8 will be following later. Do they base it on renewing our bond or on how long we have known each other?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

That's a great story, but to answer your question - neither. The rules surrounding the filing of the K-1 are pretty specific about what they need (and actually care about). The criteria is relatively simple - both free to marry at the time of the filing, having met in person within two years of filing, etc., and are outlined very clearly in the guides. Filing the K-1 is really an study in document assemblage, and providing the specific proof of having met the criteria. Remember, these are pencil pushers reviewing your application, and, according to one account, they actually do not spend much more than 15min reviewing the documentation in any one application.

Good luck - and read the guides, they will save you a lot of worry and mistakes in the future.

And So It Begins......

Having been together in person in the last two years, you a USC and both free to marry are the requirements for filing a fiance visa petition. She not being a criminal and you not being the kind of criminal listed in the Adam Walsh act are pretty much all it takes to get a petition approved.

All the rest of your story and the associated evidence will show your relationship bona fides at interview. Add to that your ability to qualify financially as a sponsor and you have the ingredients for a successful visa process.

Good luck and god's speed.

hi there!

nothing to worry about. I was in the same situation....my now "husband" and me were sweethearts in HighSchool in 1990, he left our country (Cuba) after he graduated from High School in 1993, lost contact and met again in 1996 and 1998, it was actually a coincidence that I had to travel to Venezuela in those 2 oportunities, country where he was living since 1993. I came back to my home country and he continued with his life. He never married but had to daughters. I never married and never had children. I came to EEUU in 2001 and we started having contact again by email and some phone calls. Our conversations from time to time started being more serious and we began to question the fact that we had always loved each other and never did anything to be together for good. Distance was always big between us, he was living in Venezuela and I was living in Cuba, a communist country where everything is so difficult and you can't make decisions on your own cause the goverment won't let you. On September of last year, 9 years after the last time we saw each other in 1998 in Venezuela, we decided that we had to do something for our love. I took a fly to Venezuela and met my love again!!!! It was wonderful and nothing had changed. We were just more mature. (we were in our 20s last time, now I'm 32 and he is 34) At that point there was no way that we would be separated again. I filed for the K-1 visa for him in November and he got his visa on February 1st of this year. I did 2 more trips to be with him and the last one was for his interview. Our case was solid and approved by USCIS in 2 weeks here in the States. It was sent to the Consulate in Venezuela in 1 month and the K-1 visa adjudicated in another month. I described with details our story and notarized it when I filed the case. My mom had some pictures of us from High School and he even took them to the interview. Also, some photos from the two times we saw each other in Venezuela in 1996 and 1998 were showed to the consular officer at interview. That made our case even stronger and real. My now husband arrived in the US on March and he already got his green card!!!! We are very happy and expecting our first baby!!!! So, don't be afraid. You have a beautiful and real love story to share with whoever interviews you. Be strong, be faithful and show all that love that has been there, inside you and your fiancee, through all these years. God will bless you and will be with you. If you need any advise, please let me know.

Good luck!!!!!
