I know that in Eastern Europe, the mood/sentiment there is very nationalistic, and PeeJay is just part of whats going on there at the moment.

I read Mosnews.com for months before deciding against traveling to Russia while in Finland in '06. Good thing. I had a run-in with some Swedish skinheads traveling to St. Petersburg (for some sort of Far-Right festival) while we all traveled aboard a ferry between the Republic of Aaland and Helsinki.

mosnews.gif

One of my friends from Helsinki wore a t-shirt that I purchased for him in Las Vegas the preceeding year which read - "F.B.I. - Female Body Inspector." This friend wore the shirt while in Belarus, and some former KGB guys asked him if he was American, and he responded, "No, Finnish." And they told him, "Because if you were American, we'd fight you, because here, we hate Americans." Hmmm.

What does Eastern European nationalism have to do with the OP?

And is racism acceptable, as long as it benefits your own group?

Alright let us paint both candidates in Green : would there be any hesitation to vote for obama-green ?

I would have hesitated if it was an head to head between Obama and H. Clinton but now , please give me a break...

Republicans need to prepare themselves for defeat and actually bring forward for the next election a decent candidate (young , fresh ideas , etc...).

In answer to your question: no. There would be no hesitation to vote for Obama. No sensible person with a lick of sense would vote for the candidate of the party in power after what we have been through over these last 8 years. That is the elephant in the room for America this election. There is still a sizeable segment of our population that would rather poke out their eyes than vote for a black man no matter how much sense his contemplated policies make. This is not something I say lightly but I have listened, watched and it is the only logical conclusion.

So, whats the point to this thread? I know PeeJay is real conservative, but are you ranting, angry about Obama?? What???

Ken,

pj is what pj is.

but to be fair, pj isn't the only poster who starts threads with articles yet do not post their own take.

One is left to assume with point of the article.

But as usually is the case, the article may not be clear in itself.

I read maybe first two paragraphs of it and tired of it. Don't care for articles that try to incite race debates that blatantly.

Nothing new here folks. Carry on.

I don't care at all about Obama's color, nor do I know anyone who does. I'm voting against him because I disagree with his policies and views. If I agreed with him, I'd have no problem voting for him. I vote for or against the man, not his pigmentation.

The $40,000,000 question is can the same be said about people in America who are black.

Can anyone seriously sit here and say yes they do not vote for someone based on the color of their skin ( culture) but more at the policies, previous performance, stance of this candidate.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Well clearly there's a reason (complex reasons I'm sure) why its only now that we have a "minority" presidential candidate. Leaving aside Obama's qualifications and record (a matter for another debate surely) clearly something has been going on over the last 200 years.

Or is it coincidence that like the stereotypical serial killer - pretty much every US president has been a middle-aged white male.

Speaking for myself....yes. I would have voted for McCain 2000 but not this year's version. He has very much aligned himself with the faulty policies of the current Administration. Sorry, but I like what Obama has to say and I'm willing to take a shot on the new guy. Yes, the new guy. I think people forget that some of our worst Presidents have had the most experience prior to taking office. It's all about how well you organize the staff you enlist to help you do the job and the judgment you display in taking advantage of that assistance.

well send me the 40,000,000 $ , it is a question which did/does and will not make sense :Black Americans or afro americans since "given" the right to vote (like it is a privilege !) have relentlessly voted for president who are of a caucasian orientation.

I am Afro Polynesian , I would not vote for Obama for his policy (he is a politician) I would just vote for him because in some instances : he reminds me of Kennedy, he is young , he will bring a positive image to the US

I am sorry i do not see much differences between McCain and Obama policy => Both are politicians (ie both will make promise and basically forget about them as soon as they move to the white house)

America is now owned by Corporations and long established families... Therefore in this particular case I would vote for the young lad at least the rid will be interesting/exciting and we can never predict the outcome

Some of the most racist people you will ever find are African American. Sad but true. Whites do not hold a candle to their racism. :star:

Whitey Need Not Apply

by Patrick J. Buchanan Posted 08/01/2008 ET

"Will race be an issue in this campaign?"

Hearing the cable talk-show host solemnly pose the question, I could not suppress a belly laugh.

For the anchor was fearful that some white folks might reject Obama because he is African-American -- even as a Rasmussen poll was reporting that Barack is beating McCain among black voters 94 to 1.

What, other than race, explains how Barack rolled up 90-10 margins among black voters while running against Hillary Clinton, wife of the man novelist Toni Morrison dubbed "our first black president"?

Indeed, so one-sided was the primary coverage in favor of Barack as the first African-American with a real chance to be president, even "Saturday Night Live" took to mocking the mainstream media.

As for black radio, on "The Tom Joyner Morning Show," "Michael Baisden Show" and "The Steve Harvey Morning Show," which together may reach 20 million folks, there is "little pretense of balance," writes Jim Rutenberg of The New York Times. "More often than not the Obama campaign is discussed as the home team."

Black Entertainment Television plans to carry Barack's speech to the Democratic convention live, but has no plans to carry McCain's. Barack's speech "is an historic occasion," says BET Chairman Debra L. Lee, "so that demands some special treatment from us."

As the mainstream media have moved left and talk radio right, and cable is breaking down along political and ideological lines, there is something else afoot now -- the racial Balkanization of the newsroom.

Consider. On Sunday, 6,800 folks showed in Chicago for the 2008 quadrennial convention of UNITY: Journalists of Color. McCain declined an invitation. Bush had been booed at UNITY 2004, while John Kerry got a standing ovation. Featured speaker: Barack. Major concern of the journalists running the show: that their colleagues would lift the roof off the McCormick Place convention center when Barack arrived.

Said Luis Villareal, a producer of NBC's "Dateline," "I don't think it's such a bad thing if for 15 minutes you take off your reporter hat and respond to (Obama) as a human being at an event where you're surrounded by people of color and you're here for a united cause."

And exactly what "cause" might the 10,000 members of UNITY be united behind? The hiring and advancement of journalists of color in all major news organizations in America.

For, as its emblem depicts, UNITY comprises four alliances: the Asian American Journalists Association, the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, the Native American Journalists Association and the National Association of Black Journalists.

"A New Journalism for a Changing World" is UNITY's motto. And the title of its July 22 press release reveals what the "new journalism" is all about. "Aim of New UNITY Initiative Is More Diversity in Top Media Management."

"With more than 50 percent of the population projected to be people of color in less than a generation," says UNITY President Karen Lincoln Michel, "the nation's news organizations continue to generate dismal diversity numbers year after year. ... 'Ten by 2010' is a significant step in the right direction."

What is Ten by 2010?

UNITY is demanding that 10 major U.S. news organizations, by mid-2010, elevate to a senior management position in the newsroom at least one journalist of color and provide "customized training to help prepare them."

The journalist may be Asian, African-American, Native American or Hispanic, which rules out journalists of Irish, English, Polish, Italian, German or Jewish ancestry, since they are white.

Is this what we have come to 50 years after the triumph of the civil rights movement? Flat-out demands, by American journalists, for the hiring and promotion of colleagues based on race and color?

Is there any evidence major news organizations in this country have engaged in systematic discrimination to keep out men or women of color this last half century? The reverse seems true. They have bent over backward to advance minority journalists.

And if journalists have been hired and promoted based on ability and merit, why in the 21st century should these criteria be thrown out as the standards for advancement -- in favor of race and color?

Isn't this what they did in the days of Jim Crow -- hire and promote based on race? What UNITY is calling for is a return to the old rules but with new beneficiaries -- blacks, Hispanics, Asians and Native Americans -- and new victims, all of whom will be white.

On Sunday, McCain came out in favor of an Arizona civil rights initiative that would outlaw any state discrimination either for or against folks, based on race, gender or national origin. Barack said he was "disappointed" with McCain and told UNITY he favors affirmative action "when properly structured."

The Arizona referendum banning preferential treatment based on race is also on the ballot in the swing state of Colorado. It won in California in 1996, in Washington in 2000 and in Michigan in the great Democratic sweep of 2006. It has never lost, and may just win McCain Colorado, and with it the nation.

I am not sure about this one , here are a few of main crime humanity has been subjected :

Polgrom - russians

Apartheid - brit and dutch

6 millions dead in concentration camp - hitler germany

Yugoslavia ethnic cleansing - Slavics

Rwanda genocide - rwandans

WWI and WWII in fact were tribal wars where the rest of the world was invited to join in

My point is : we can all point fingers at each others or instead each of us look within ourselves.

The point in this thread is not who is the worst or best racist ever , as far as I understand the issue is why Obama can not once for all overcome McCain (member of a political party which disastrously ran the country for the last 8 years) .

My personal opinion is :all down to colour of their skins - on one side we have an highly educated/amercian success story and dynamic young contender and on the other side we have someone who thought in Vietnam (that 's the only credential I can find in favour of McCain).
