We have a cat, which I have failed to bond with in the nigh-on 3 years I've been here. Not keen on animals in general, me. Fish seem less like hard work, tho.

Yeah that's a ####### if you don't get on with it. Did your wife own the cat before you moved over?

Can't be much worse than my parent's (feral) cat which would shred newspaper if you pointed it in its direction.

Yeah. I can't see the point of it, quite frankly. It sheds hair everywhere, gets under my feet, pukes and/or craps on the carpet, kicks cat litter around in the bathroom, wakes me up at 5:30am with its mewing, has to have 2 (expensive) shots of insulin daily (which means it has to be [expensively] boarded whenever we want to go away for a few days) plus special (expensive) diabetic food... No doubt there is a joy to be had in owning a cat. I have failed to grasp it, tho.

Yeah the shedding bothers me too - we have a black long-haired cat and a white short-hair (worst of both worlds really) though when the male sheds at least his fur clumps so its easy to clean up. The female sheds little white hairs over everything, twice as bad when she's scared (any sudden noise will do it), vacuuming up that ####### takes ages (though I find wiping down the couch with a damp cloth each week gets rid of that). The male mews for his food regular as clockwork at 6pm, and the female mews (chatters would be more accurate) generally, but not loud and it is kind of cute.

Still a diabetic cat - that's got to be a hassle... "come here kitty so I can stick you with needles". Its a shame the buggers can't understand that you're doing it for their own good.

Good tips here. I have a question about the clumping litter. I have used it with cats in the past. When we got our new kittens, I read horror stories online about it causing intestinal blockages when swallowed during grooming, so we switched to a pine litter (like little pellets) especially right after the male was neutered. The kittens are now about five months old. I don't know whether we will switch back or not (the pellets don't track or get thrown out of the box nearly as much as the clumping kind, and the kitties liked to play in the clumping kind when it was fresh). Just wondered if anyone has had any trouble with intestinal blockages, or has heard of anyone who has, from clumping litter.

I have 2 cats myself, and I alsp switched to Feline Pine (the pellets type) a few months ago.. and will never go back!

I heard horror stories about the clumping litter not being very healthy, besides Feline Pine solved the tracking problem and the scooping also!

Love it! :)

My cat digs like he's headed to China. I bought one of the biggest rubbermaid containers I could find and cut a hole in on end about 6" in diameter and about 5" off the floor. Cured all messy problems.
