Hi all, my permanent resident card came in the mail yesterday!

I was just wondering - they have used my middle name on my green card, but not on my Social Security Number card.

Does this matter? Or should I get the green card changed to match up?

Any help is appreciated, thanks :)

RM 00203.210 Changing Numident Name Data

C. Procedure - Immigration Document as Evidence of Legal Name

When issuing immigration documents, the Department of State and DHS issue them in the person’s legal name. The legal name is also generally the name in which the foreign passport was issued.

When an alien applies for an SSN card, presume the name on the immigration document is the legal name unless the applicant presents evidence of a legal name change (e.g., marriage) that occurred after the immigration document was issued.

In cases where an alien applies for a replacement SSN card and submits an immigration document showing a name that is different from the name on the prior Numident record, accept the immigration document as evidence of the legal name. In these cases, the prior SSN card may have been issued in a name that was not the NH’s legal name.

6. Change of Middle Name to Maiden Name on SSN Card

Lisa Smith Jones applies for a replacement SSN card in that name because she lost her SSN card. The prior Numident records show the names Lisa Marie Smith and Lisa Jones. She submits a driver’s license showing her name as Lisa S. Jones.

It is a common occurrence in the U.S. for a woman to take her maiden name as the middle name after marriage. Because a legal name generally consists of a first or given name and a surname or family name, whether the identity document submitted shows the middle name is included, omitted or incorrect does not matter.

SSA can process the change of Lisa’s middle name. This is not a legal name change because the first and last names have not changed.

RM 00203.735 Requesting Online (Primary) Verification by SAVE

E. Procedure — Online SAVE Query Response Information Does Not Agree with Immigration Document

d. SAVE Query Response Does Not Show Middle Name (or Initial) but Immigration Document Does

When the immigration document shows a middle name (or initial), the SSA SAVE query response does not display a middle name or initial as part of name on the "First Name" line. This is not a data discrepancy. Do not request DHS to verify the middle name or initial when the SAVE query response does not show the middle name (or initial) that is shown on the immigration document submitted. When the DHS database has a middle name or middle initial, DHS provides that information to SSA. However, the middle name or middle initial data is not displayed on the SSA SAVE query response screen.

I'm not sure. I had always used my full name on applications, but when I got my social security number after arriving here the office did not use my middle name/initial. Then just recently I got my green card and my middle name is on it.

I've read mdyoung's post and it seems to indicate that this isn't a problem? Cheers,

Nick
