Am looking up tickets to fly to India end of this year and I'll be flying for the first time into London..

I'll be flying into Gatwick (LGW) and flying out of London Heathrow (LHR) and have a 3-4 hr layover..

Is it easy to change airports? how much would the cab/bus fare be?

Thanks for your replies!

Are you the USC or are you an Indian citizeb? Because if you are Indian I believe there is some sort of visa issue for such a transfer.

3-4 hour layover is doable but still pretty tight. You can take a National Express bus between airports, or take train into Victoria Station, circle line to South Kensington station and Picadilly out to Heathrow.

dude that could be tight for time once you get through the airport etc

I wouldn't recommend it and if you can get both flights from one airport it would be better. As rkl57 and illumine have stated, it's pretty tight and the actual journey will take around an hour (depending on traffic - the M25 is notoriously "car-park" like). Add on your check-in times and baggage collection, immigration and so on...I'm sure you can see the potential problems. ;)

Good luck, though!

I've done it with a five hour layover, I made my connecting flight just! Depends on a number of factors really as described, time of day etc

If I was you I'd spend the extra cash to get a flight out of heathrow. With such a tight connection, I assume the two flights are not on the same ticket? So if you miss that Gatwick flight, you'll be paying thro the nose for another flight to your destination.

Goodluck!

The Very Secret Diary of Legolas Son of Weenus - by Cassandra Claire

Day One: Went to Council of Elrond. Was prettiest person there. Agreed to follow some tiny little man to Mordor to throw ring into volcano. Very important mission - gold ring so tacky.

Day Six: Far too dark in Mines of Moria to brush hair properly. Am very afraid I am developing a tangle.

Orcs so silly.

Still the prettiest.

Day 35: Boromir dead. Very messy death, most unnecessary. Did get kissed by Aragorn as he expired. Does a guy have to get shot full of arrows around here to get any action? Boromir definitely not prettier than me. Cannot understand it. Am feeling a pout coming on.

Frodo off to Mordor with Sam. Tiny little men caring about each other, rather cute really.

Am quite sure Gimli fancies me. So unfair. He is waist height, so can see advantages there, but chunky braids and big helmet most off-putting. Foresee dark times ahead, very dark times.

If you do decide to (and I wouldn't) don't take the train if you have a lot or large luggage too many flights of stairs to contend with.

The train is the quickest way to get from Gatwick - Heathrow or vice versa DairyFarmer. Talking the bus or a taxi all depends on the traffic flow.

The train is the only way that you can guarantee to a reasonable level the traveling time.

Thanks everyone for the heads-up

I have decided not to fly into Gatwick and instead, will fly directly into Heathrow...Its a bit more pricey to fly into Heathrow but it'll amount the same(price-wise) since I have to pay out of pocket to travel from Gatwick to Heathrow..

This begs the Q....shouldn't the airlines have their own free transportation for their passengers?

You'd think wouldn't you. But unless it's a package holiday with all the frills then they won't do it. We flew out of Gatwick once and flew back into Heathrow with Virgin once so our car was parked at Gatwick. Because it was a package holiday they included the cost of the transfter so we could get our car.

I know, you're right but for me NEVER again. I actually tore a muscle in my arm hoisting my suitcases up and down all the stairs.

If they provide transport the ticket price will be increased to allow for that.
