Last time I called DOS they said the case lies in the hands of the Consular Officer at the embassy. The only word I get from the embassy is I should expect 4 months post-interview. They took my fiance's passport which I figured was a good sign. Is it worth it to continue to call DOS for updates? At least they give me more info than the embassy does.

I always found comfort calling DOS. . .my consulate seemed to update on Thursdays, and each time that a piece of the case was complete I found out from DOS and NEVER got updates from the consulate.

In my case it was VERY worthwhile to call DOS once a week or once every two weeks depending on the stage of my case.

I want to say that the Colombian embassy also did updates on Thursdays. Thats when I found out that we were out of Security Checks... I would call once a week...it was the only thing that I had to look forward to...so I have to say it kept me from going crazy some days.

Have you tried calling the consulate to see what they say? Colombia has a free day when you can call. Its only a window of 2 hours but is something. Look to see if your consulate has something similar.

Kind regards,

Diana

What the heck, I called DOS weekly for several months, then every other week up until about three weeks ago. Sometimes they are very helpful sometimes not. It never hurts to play innocent and see what information you can get from them. And it justifies them having a job.

Seriously, I found out more from DOS that I ever did from the embassy and you never know what tidbits you might get. It also helps as they document when u call to show you are still interested and haven't died or given up. Maybe some day some one will audit the call records and be like hmmmmmmm what is taking so long on these cases.
