I just mailed out the I-134 and copy of my 1-129 packet for my fiance in Turkey. Although mailing is only supposed to take 7-10 days, we have had trouble in the past and it sometimes took over a month for mail to reach him. My NOA said that the petition is good until September 1. What does this petition expiration mean? I am concerned that if the papers don't reach him until the end of August, he wont have enough time to complete his interview by September 1.

Consular officers can and routinely do extend petition validity in 120 day increments. Don't give it a second thouight.

alright, great. i found something about that after i posted my question. I found a letter on this website to fill out in order to extend the petition, but i'm not exactly sure what to do with it. Could you, or anyone, help me with how to extend the petition? Do i need to use an official form? what information do i need? do i send it to the embassy in turkey, or to the center in california that gave me the petition? One problem is that i sent my noa's to my fiance, and although i was certain i made copies, apparently i lost them or didnt make copies....so i dont have the information that was on those papers.

also, how long does the extending process take?

Yep the embassy automatically extends it. One of my many suggestions I sent out months ago was to extend the time the petition is valid for since it is almost impossible for anyone to complete the paperwork, interview, and security checks in four months.

My case has been extended every four months for 1 1/2 years now.
