Hi my friends here,

As I read through the threads in VJ forum, I've noticed there are some people have to go through DOS and FBI after the case completed in NVC while some people don't sound experience that...

I am now very confused about that, is it necessary for every visa applicant to go through DOS and FBI after their cases completed in NVC or just for some cases? Or for what???

I have no even a little clue about that... Could anyone help me with this, please?

Thank you so much!!!

Dear Ling,

After the NVC and after the interview, if the interview was successful, the case gets sent back to USA for the Department of State to perform security checks with other government agencies. The length of time it takes for these security checks can vary from a few days, few weeks to months. However, normally the longer wait times are more for immigrants from Africa and Middle East. Chinese people may not have to wait so long.

This sounds weird to me as well.

Are you saying this happens with ALL embassies after the interview or just for some?

My Husband went through the embassy in Montreal, had his interview on Tuesday and the visa arrived in the mail on Friday. I am absolutely sure they didn't do an FBI or any other government agency checks after the interview.

I think it is extremely important to speak about specific embassies when giving out this kind of information - well at least that's my opinion.
