yeah we got married about 10 days after she got here in the couthouse! We were not sure about her relatives geting their visas and how long it would take if it would be with in 90 days! But now we are doing a big celebration because her family will be here too!

Congratulations! :energy:

You are so fortunate that your "k-1njourney" has moved relatively quickly and painlessly! :dancing: :dancing:

I wish you both all the best!

As of:

June 26, 2012 - The Hubbs received his 10-year Permanent Residency Card (aka THE Greencard) in the mail today!

At long last, this highly stressful leg of our journey has come to a close - for now - and we couldn't be more grateful and appreciative for all the tremendous help and support here on VJ! Without VisaJourney I doubt we would be where my husband and I are today! Thanks to all!

Wow! That is really cool!

Can you provide some more details about the status of the relatives? Mom, dad, sister, brothers, cousins, work, school, home owners, businesses, etc.???

All the traditional, "Russians can't get tourist visas" stuff seems to have dissipated in the past year or two. How'd it work out for you guys?

My lady's Russian ex husband, his wife and his two kids all got tourist visas to visit his sister who lives in the USA (with a Russian husband). So it looks like it's easy for Russians to come and visit relatives here. And the kicker is the visas are good for 6 months versus the 30 day Russian tourist visas we have to deal with.

Not quite. I have plenty of friends who were denied. But it's easy to see why Mariya's family were approved: they had a specific purpose in visiting the USA and framed their visit as simply attending the wedding and returning to their lives in Russia.

And yes, our Russian tourist visas are thirty days but you don't need an interview. Even long-term work and student visas don't require interviews. The visa I have now can potentially be extended for up to a year. If you have the documents and the cash, you're good to go.

Looks like it's getting easier but they still need to fit the basic requirements; a valid reason to visit and a need to return.

Either way, good news for those of us with families!
