Does anyone else think the idea of eating gold flakes is gross?

YUCK!

And no, I would never pay that for a burger.........

Well, this may be because you are not of Asian origin.

In India (and also Bangladesh), many sweets have a thin layer of silver foil on them (in pricier shops, gold foil may be used).

I wouldn't pay $175 for any kind of meal. Why would I want to spend that much money on $hit? That's basically what it amounts too. Because in about 24 hours or less, it's gonna be $hit. Even if I had money to spend on food like that I don't think I could. I just don't see the point.

I have a hard time paying 40 bucks at Applebees for both my hubby and I  although it is good food so I don't mind too much...

but usually when we eat out at the most we pay 20 bucks but it is usually around 10 bucks for both of us...

There's an Indian restaurant here (really lovely, btw; female chef who takes time in-between cooking to talk to her guests and then gives you free sweets if she likes you) that decorates its desserts with gold flakes and they are delicious! Yum!

There is absolutely no way I could afford that burger. However, if I really wasn't going to miss $175 then I could be tempted...once. I've always wanted to know what a truffle tastes like. Plus at that price I'd probably really take the time to enjoy the meal.

Edit to add that restaurant prices are generally a lot higher in the UK, so all-in-all I've heard of more obscenely priced menu items.

I'd pay $175 for a meal, just not a burger.

Last year hubster and I were treated to a 12-course tasting menu that was $145 per person at a restaurant where the chef just this week received a prestigious award as best chef in the nation. This meal was NOT all about just the taste, and it's hard to decribe how the food is prepared so that all of your senses are engaged. It was an experience I'll never forget. It wasn't just about, oh does this taste good.

We went to "Fogo de Chão" last month for my mom's birthday. Though food was good and service was prompt, my mom felt it was too much paying 500$ for the meal, drinks & vallet parking.

I wouldnt disagree with her any other day on paying too much for a meal. However that day 500$ bill was unmatched to the special moments we all had together on her birthday.

I feel it in my finger....I feel it in my toes ... Love is all around me... so the feeling grows .... !!!

The pictures on their website are AMAZING -- they made some things (seafood) look so good I would actually try them!

I wouldn't pay $175 for one single hamburger, but I would pay that amount for a great meal with my hubby as a VERY special treat.

I think I have become more cheap than frugal when it is extremely difficult for me to go to resturants filled with things I can make at home for a 1/5 of the cost. Ruins some of the experience. :P

Edit to add that restaurant prices are generally a lot higher in the UK, so all-in-all I've heard of more obscenely priced menu items.

...

There is foie gras with a chestnut tuille; a sushi of sauerkraut; white beans with

liquorice and tomato concasse; cod mousse with a cucumber coulis; and yet more

foie gras, this time with raspberry. Each one - they are to be eaten, clockwise,

in the order in which they have been placed before me - tastes more delicious

than the last.

...

Well, the Lecture Room, whose menu is overseen by the great French chef

Pierre Gagnaire, is Britain's most expensive restaurant. A starter of spider crab,

milk-fed veal and caviar will set you back £70; a main course of Angus beef,

Béarnaise sausage and aubergine cannelloni with snails costs £65.

...

the Lecture Room was voted the country's best restaurant by a panel of leading

chefs. Harden's Guide - compiled from reviews by 6,500 diners - pronounced it

'extortionately overpriced' and accused it of serving 'pretentious tosh' to 'mugs'.

Hard on the heels of this report, the Daily Mail sent a 'restaurant professional'

there. 'I had three courses and two glasses of house wine,' he wrote, indignantly.

'The bill came to £250. I can safely say that if Michelin stars were awarded for

scandalous prices, then Sketch would reduce the competition to mincemeat. In

all my years in this business, I have never come across a bill as outrageous.

By my calculations, they're trying to get away with a staggering 600 per cent

mark-up.'

...

If my lunch is anything to go on, it will be wholly deserved. I begin with

langoustines cooked four ways (£48), and they're splendid. I follow with sea

bass in an acidulated vegetable infusion (£45) served with spiny artichokes,

cos lettuce and razor clams - also heavenly, even if I do feel envious of

Mazouz's Dover sole with parsley velouté (he is having the set-lunch menu,

which costs a comparatively meagre £48 for three courses). Finally - and this

is the best bit - we finish by sharing the Pierre Gagnaire grand dessert (£28):

a flurry of dishes, and each one so picture perfect it feels like a crime to thrust

a spoon into it. There are chocolatey things and fruity things and things with

pansies growing on top. Loveliest of all is the ice cream, which tastes of fennel

and beer.

Welcome to Sketch, Britain's most expensive restaurant

It was a very special treat. I'm thinking of sending my folks there for their 30th wedding anniversary this year. They were realy jealous we'd been taken there. Oh, and hubster doesn't like seafood and even he tried it.

I understand that. We eat about 2 times a month out because I come home too lazy to bother with cooking. It is generally Chinese.
