Interview for the I-130?

Has anyone else had to go to an interview for the I-130?

We filed in late February, got an RFE in late May, and now in mid-June we are getting a request to come in for an interview to establish our bona fides! Meanwhile we keep having to move our flight back and back and back...

Anyone know what this is about?

Is it about my wife being Bolivian?

Not before they get a Packet 3.

This interview is apparently for the I-130. If they approve I assume we will then get our NOA, Packet 3 and can finally apply for a visa and wait for Packet 4 which is the visa interview date.

See what I mean? This is really unexpected. And we are both starting to despair.

I was right, I didn't understand you correctly.

I came here on a K1 and that's the only process I know I'm afraid. Hopefully someone with more knowledge on your particular visa will be able to help you soon. Good luck with everything.

Hmmm...this reminds me of something that was in the news in Nebraska a few years ago:

No, she is not Aymara, but your mentioning this makes me think of what happened yesterday at the US embassy in La Paz...big protest with dynamite. Pretty typical for Bolivia actually.

Anyway, while she is not an indigenous Bolivian, that shouldn't matter!!! Anyway, we are trying not to let this bother us! Just booked our interviews on the 17 June and will bring our love letters and all that personal stuff that is none of their business!

Still, if anyone has been through this detour before, we would love to hear what to expect. Trying to keep our good humor!

I have no experience with all your going through, but my slightly cheeky advice is to bring all your packet 3 and 4 stuff with you, if you have it. A filled out DS-230, I-184, police certs, birth certs etc. You could ask to hand them all in at the same time, if they approve your I-130 on the day. It's worth a try!

Try not to stress, the CO's are really very nice, and understanding of nervous people going through this process. Hopefully the detour won't take you too far off the path to an approved visa

Thanks for your kind words. Poiteen's idea is fantastic actually. We have everything ready anyway! It's worth a shot. Will let you guys know what happens next week! This is how I presented it to my wife anyway....good news and bad news. Good news is we got an interview. Bad news, it isn't the visa interview.

P.S. I love that word "cheeky." Just doesn't exist in the US. Could that be because we, sadly, aren't as cheeky?

Good luck...I totally agree it shouldn't matter what background you are. It could be something simple or not...who knows with the USCIS though!
